| CJsMommy's Full Review: Crayola Color Wonder Markers and Paper |
When looking for ways for my son to express his artistic ability (yes, those scribbles are art!), I wanted something that would leave his body and my carpet color-free. Granted, we have a few KoolAid marks, but I would rather not have blue and green joining the red. When I saw the pack of Crayola Color Wonder Markers & Paper I thought it would be perfect!
Well, the idea is a good one. The Crayola Color Wonder Markers & Paper are specially designed so that your child can color on the paper, but not anything else. The markers actually have a clear tip, regardless of what color they are. Like all Crayola markers, the outside is white with swirls of color letting you know what color that particular marker is. The markers you get are red, blue, green, purple, yellow, and black. No brown or orange included.
The pad of paper is magic (or so you will tell your kids:). When you color, draw, or write on the paper with your Wonder Markers, the color will show up. That color is whatever is shown on the marker case. If you try to color, draw, or write on anything other than the paper, nothing will show up. If you try anything on your skin, you will see a faint clear line, but it will soon disappear. The package does warn against coloring on any wood items in your house.
The paper is one sided, so you can only color on the top side. This can be a little frustrating when your child wonders why their color isn't showing up, even though they are drawing on the special paper. The wrong side does say Crayola on it in grey lettering.
The pack that we bought came not only with the 6 markers and a pad of paper, but a pouch to keep the markers in too. It is a white mesh zippered pouch, which holds the markers very nicely.
While the Crayola Color Wonder Markers & Paper look and sound like a great idea, they really aren't all that good. First of all, they smell horrible! Couldn't they have made a nice fruity smell or something? Let me tell you, this isn't your average marker smell. It's horrible!
Second, the color doesn't show up right away when you color. It's almost like a delayed reaction. And, when your child is in the midst of artistic genius, he won't want to wait to see if it's shown up, and that could lead to coloring mistakes *grin* But seriously, it is rather annoying to color something, then have to wait for it to show up.
Third, the colors just aren't that vibrant. Crayola is known for it's great colors, and this product just doesn't live up to it's standards. The red is more like a dull maroon, the yellow barely shows up, the black is more gray than anything. In other words, just not pretty stuff.
And, of course, you will run out of paper fast. And, since you can only use the special paper with these markers, it can get rather expensive. Your children will feel pressured to get the picture right the first time, so that they won't waste paper, and that can lead to expensive therapy later in life. It's just not worth the money *grin* Crayola does jack up the prices on this stuff though. It ain't cheap folks!
Overall, the idea is nice, but the actual product just doesn't live up to the Crayola standard. For the money you are shelling out, Crayola Color Wonder Markers & Paper just isn't worth it. The colors aren't that good, the paper is a rip-off, and the markers stink! If you want to keep the carpets clean from color, I would suggest another good Crayola product-the Washable line.
