| rahulthakur's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad IIc (128 MB) MP3 Player |
This is the second MP3 that I have owned and I bought this one after careful reviews.
1.) Look and feel, Usability - the device is very robust and user-friendly. The buttons are relatively easy to figure out and the center dial is very well designed. The additional clip-on remote is excellent and it come in handy while exercising. One word of caution though - make sure that you secure the wires leading to the remote. A new remote will set you back almost $ 30.
I have not been able to figure out the FM function which is available on the Nomad II models and NOT on the IIc but I have not read the manual. Else it should be nice to listen to radio once in a while.
2.) Battery life - I have not been impressed with the battery life although it uses only one AA battery. I have made an observation though - battery life can be improved substantially if you don't load and unload songs very often. I think the USB transfer sucks the life out of the batteries. But given that it uses on one AA, it is understandable.
3.) Transfer - the USB connection is relatively fast but nothing out of the ordinary there. The software tells you the status of the transfers. The connection is quite robust which I like since I always fear the small pins to break which can render the interface non-usable.
4.) Software - The software comes in two forms. One to transfer mp3's between your device and the source and the other one to manage all your songs. I have not been able to explore the second one and have extensively used the base software. It is relatively intuitive to use although I have not found any feature that does sampling of the songs. Songs are transferred at the same rate which can limit the number that goes on your device. I have a 128 MB device which accomodates about 30 songs at one time. I am sure that with sampling I could do more than that.
Summary
1.) Good robust device, external remote a boon.
2.) Average battery life. (uses only 1 AA)
3.) Good selection of accessories. Some of them are ridiculously expensive but I like the car extension kit.
