| overlord2121's Full Review: Creative Technology Nomad IIc (128 MB) MP3 Player |
When i was looking for a MP3 Player, there were two types that came to mind. The hard drive based MP3 players ie: I Pod , Nomad Zen. and of course the non moving part memory card MP3 players ie: most MP3 Players. the hard drive based MP3 players like I Pod are nice because of the amount of songs it holds on it, but other than that they arent that great. Because the price is a lot more than most MP3 players, and if you do any type of physical activity and happen to drop the I Pod, you just wasted 200-400 dollars because its basically like droping a little hard drive. and it wont work. So if you plan on using your MP3 player as an exercise device i would recommend the Nomad IIc 128mb. Because its built like a brick $hit house. With that said about my opinion on MP3 players lets look specifically at the wonderful Nomad IIc 128mb.
Memory: Ok you may have seen different size internal memory for this unit ie: 32,64,and 128. the 128 is the best buy for your money. Dont bother with the other ones. go 128 you will be glad you did. There is also a slot on the mp3 player where you can add another memory card and they go up to 128, so you basically can have a 256mb MP3 player for not a lot of dough. With 256mb you can get about 8+ hours of music, which is plenty for me. The Nomad IIc uses SmartMedia memory card. A 128mb SmartMedia card usually runs about $40.
LCD Screen: The screen is very nice and clear, and its where you access all of your music that you put on the MP3 player. The use of the screen is very easy. I would like to see it easyier to access your music library of songs, but for the price you are paying its an awesome MP3 player, and does the job. It has a back light so if your in your car at night or anywhere in the dark you can see what songs you want playing. *hint* to make your battery life last longer turn off the back light. but only turn the backlight on when you need it.
Durability: The best thing you will love about this MP3 player is its durablilty, it so good youll swear to god that its a Nalgene water bottle !!!
Sofware: The software that comes with the Nomad IIc works great with Windows XP, but ive heard its buggy with Windows 98. Overall its pretty straightfoward. Drag the songs on your computer to the Nomad IIc and it automatically transfers from computer to Nomad IIc. couldnt really ask for more. the software also does a good job of ripping your CD's to play on your Nomad IIc. just in case you have a CD that no one else has and you cant get MP3's off the internet of the CD you can do it yourself :)
Battery Life: the nomad uses 1 AA battery. and gets about 10+hours. if you use rechargeables even better. its nice that the Nomad IIc doesnt use AAA batteries because they are usually not rechargeable, like some MP3 players use.
recommended accessories:
Creative Nomad II Docking Station - not the MG docking station but the one built for Nomad II. this item was discontinued by creative labs awhile ago. you can find them on ebay. they usually go for $50 because they are so hard to find and such a very good accessory. it comes with the station and a rechargeable battery. it is a recharger/loading center for hooking up to your computer.
Better Headphones - just go out and buy your favorite headphones, the ones packaged with the unit just dont cut it and get uncomfortable after a couple hours of listening.
All in all this the best MP3 player that isnt hard drive based. Whether your a runner or a avid music listener the Nomad IIc 128mb is for you. With the price of this unit it is sure the "best buy" of any MP3 player.
