These speakers were made for the gamers in mind! The retail price is $99 and if you shop around you can find them as low as $59. These speakers are also great if you are into listening to your MP3 music files. For playing a DVD movie it is missing the center speaker and it is not recommended if that is what you are looking for.
The Creative FPS speakers and Cambridge FPS speakers are the same ones, I believe Creative Labs own Cambridge, in fact all Creative speakers are made by Cambridge.
This system is made up of a 4.1 sound system consisting of 4 speakers and one subwoofer. Each satellite speaker is only 2.75 inches square and produces only 3.5 to 4 watts of power each, but will blow you away with a crisp clean sound. I have seen computer speaker systems rated at 120 watts of power that couldn’t hold a candle to these speakers. The subwoofer has 9 to 10 watts of power and produces a nice oomph bass sound.
What you get!
One subwoofer
Two satellite speakers with 9 feet of speaker wire (Front speakers)
Two satellite speakers with 12 feet of speaker wire (Rear speakers)
Four desktop stands for the satellite speakers
Two tripods for rear speaker placement
DC power adapter
A volume control
Various fasteners
Instructions
Speaker Placement!
Speaker placement is rather easy to figure out. For the best performance try to place the front ones equally apart from where you sit by the computer using the desktop stands and then try to place the rear speakers equal to the front speakers.
For the rear speakers they provide two more desktop stands if you can use them or use the plastic tripods that also come with them and stand them up in the floor.
The subwoofer just hide it, no matter where you place it in the room the results should be the same. I like to keep mine under the computer desk out of sight.
Installation!
You get good instructions with picture details on how to set it up. This system can be set up with a two speaker out sound card or a four speaker out sound card, instructions are shown for both.
The volume control has a 12-foot cable that connects to the subwoofer and the back of your sound card. Use the double sticking tape and stick the volume control to the side of your monitor or where ever it seems to be easy to use. The four speakers connect on the back subwoofer. The DC power supply also connects to the subwoofer.
If you need more length in the cables you can go to your local Radio Shack store and find extensions there.
The subwoofer has a control on it to adjust the amount of oomph you may want out of it.
Turn on the system and don’t worry about turning it off anymore, it will automatically shutdown in about 25 minutes when not in use.
Speaker placement, running the wires to hide and total setup was a little over one hour.
Overall
The sound is really good with a crisp, clear and clean sound from the satellite speakers, just turn off the subwoofer to hear how clear they are. The subwoofer has a pretty good sound, it will not rattle your windows but I believe you would be happy with it. The volume control at ¼ is loud enough for most, at ½ it is really loud and at ¾ the wife will be fussing at you to turn it down. If you go past ¾ of the volume it starts to get a little distorted, I recommend to stay below ¾ volume.
The list price of $99 is not bad, but if you get one for the $59 price, it is a bargain!
I would totally recommend this speaker system to all computers unless you want to watch DVD movies on your computer through your DVD player. Then you should look for a 5.1 speaker sound system and Creative Labs and Cambridge have some really nice ones.
