| Bradman's Full Review: The Allerton Hotel - Michigan Avenue |
This hotel is one of the oldest in Chicago (see other review for more info). One disadvantage of this is that everything is jam packed into tight quarters. The elevators are 1/2 size and the rooms are pretty small (but done well).
I had the opportunity to stay in Chicago for a business trip and this hotel came up just a few dollars more than the Holiday Inn (turns out they are owned by the some mega company). If you are looking for spacious interiors and super modern surroundings then this is not your place. The heat is still provided by steam radiators in the rooms (although each room has A/C). The bathrooms are done in nice marble and the staff was most helpful. One thing that bothered me is that there was NO parking. Valet parking was $32 per night! The lot next door is for another hotel.
Being able to look out your window at the "miracle mile" more than made up for the small quirks. I walked over to the Sony store and Tiffany's was just across the street. Very nice way to experience Chicago. I would highly recommend this hotel, just know what you are getting into (and take a taxi/limo).
