countrygyrl's Full Review: Dark Horse by Nickelback
I love this album period.
I am pretty much a hard core 80's hair metal / rock n roller girl- you know Bon Jovi (my holy grail band) Poison, Motley crue, Slaughter, Kixx, Skid row, AC/DC, Def Leppard.
I haven't really found many "newer" bands that make me feel like my 80's bands did but my 17 year old daughter bought this CD and told me I would love it and I have listened to it every single day for the past several months. I don't ever get sick of it- it makes me happy.
There is not a bad song on this CD and every single one has a hard rocking yet catchy beat.
On first impression I felt many of the songs had a reminicent AC/DC- Def Lepard-ish feel but still unique and totally Nickelback.
The songs vary from border line sleazy and loaded with sexual inuendo like the first track "Something in your mouth"- about a stripper in a little pink thong , "Shakin Hands" about a prostitute and the blattent "S.E.X." . With lyrics like "slap John Deere across my a** and ride me up and down the lawn", not for the children- to the "love" songs like "Somebody" which is the first mega hit single all over the radio and "Come for you" which are both beautiful strong power ballads. "Just to get high" is a powerful serious song about drug addiction. The last track " This afternoon" is a fun little tune about partying and has a totally different feel than the other songs- almost "Bob Marleyish". I read a qoute from Chad Kroger saying that this is their version of Garth Brooks "2 Pina Coladas" I would agree.
If you are a 80's rock lover or true Nickelback fan this album will not dissapoint and if you like "todays" bands like Hinder, Seether and even Jet, Silvertide or Shine Down this album may be worth checking out.
As I said I love it- It is a very "strong" album, I swear ever song is played with the utmost passion and it ROCKS period!
