| shantel575's Full Review: Diaper Doublers |
I have a two year old that wets like nothing I've ever seen. We are keeping the diaper companies in business with him and I can't even imagine trying to toilet train when he can't stay dry for 5 minutes! Anyway, my sister in law knows that we go through a mega pack of diapers every week so I was very curious when she told me about a product she found at Publix. They are called Diaper Doublers.
The Product
The Diaper Doublers come in packs of 30 and only cost about $2 per package. Here is what the package says:
"Diaper Doublers is a convenient way to make your cloth or disposable diaper more efficient. Place a Diaper Doubler in the center of your diaper. The extra absorbency keeps baby dry overnight. During the day, use Diaper Doublers anytime you need the convenience of extra diaper protection."
Sounds good, right? That's what I thought. I certainly had a need for these so I decided to give them a try.
Our Experience
These Diaper Doublers are long, thick, narrow cloth like pads (similar to sanitary napkins) and fit nicely in the center of a baby's diaper. I was excited to give them a try so that night I placed one in my son's Huggies Overnite Diapers and got him ready for bed. We have major problems with him wetting in high volumes and leakage so I had big expectations for these things. The first morning after, my son woke up and was still dry. He doesn't get up wet every single morning so I tried to be optimistic that the Diaper Doubler had saved the day. I even used them some during daytime outings so I wouldn't have to change him so often (like every 5 minutes!) while trying to run errands. We started having problems. He was having leaks one right after the other. He was getting up wet in the mornings. ARGH!
I decided to check something out with these jokers. I took one into the bathroom and poured a fine stream of water onto the pad. I had a feeling about what would happen and I was right. The water rolled right off the pad! It didn't absorb ANY of the water. The top layer was damp but nothing actually went INTO the pad. Hello?! This would definitely cause a problem! When my son would wet, the pad wouldnt absorb the fluid and since the pad was blocking it from going directly into the diaper, it had nowhere else to go but OUT of the diaper through the leg openings or at the waist. NOT a good scenario at all.
Mom's Opinion
So, while this is a GREAT concept for moms like me who have a kid that wets like no other, the Diaper Doubler leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't absorb well at all, IF at all. So I tossed my package into the garbage. no need in even giving them away if they don't work! But, I ran with the idea. My next trip to the store I picked up a mega pack of generic sanitary napkins. They work like a charm.
If you run across the Diaper Doublers, just turn and walk away. Good concept, poor performance. I definitely do not recommend these for any reason.
Thanks for reading!
