leafsbabe01's Full Review: Dream Matte Mousse Foundation
Now I'm not entirely sure why, but I'm constantly on the look out for the perfect foundation. My regular Clinique foundation is very heavy, as I have slight acne scarring from my teens to conceal. The foundation itself is extremely thick and hard to apply, and although it conceals very well, it gives an overall very make-up-y look.
I recently purchased a jar of Dermablend's cover creme, which covers anything you could imagine, including tattoos. It works so well, I've started using it just as my concealer, tossing aside all others... and went on a quest to find a new, lighter foundation.
A few weeks ago, I saw an ad for Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation. Of course, Lancome and Clinique slave that I am, I was cautious. After all, why on earth would any of us go back to a drug store foundation after discovering the luxuries of such brands. Well, besides money of course. I would love to continue using a Lancome foundation, but currently I simply can't afford to spend $40 a month on a foundation. At least not until my visa pulls through and I'm able to work here in the U.S.
So I headed over to my local Walgreen's to check out Maybelline's newest foundation, Dream Matte Mousse.

After inspecting the color selection, I decided Natural Ivory was the best match for me, and headed to check-out.
Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse comes in a clear round glass jar with a screw-on lid containing .64 oz. The jar seems to be surprisingly heavy (compared to it's competitor's) when first picked up.
One of the things I love most about this foundation is it's packaging. The glass jar gives easy access to all of the foundation, unlike glass jars with narrow openings and plastic tubes, that can be tough to get the last bits of foundation out of.
When you unscrew the top, the mousse foundation is revealed. Unlike regular foundation, you have no worries over spilling it with it's spongy texture.
Pricing & longevity
The .64 oz jar retails for around $9.00.
I've found that most foundations come in 1 oz tubes, which last me around 5 weeks. To date I've found Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse lasts me around 3 weeks. Given that it contains less foundation per jar, it seems to be about average to comparable brands.
The Application
Maybelline gives the following application tips:
Focus on perfecting the tone and coverage down the center of your face first. Use just a small amount of makeup and blend it in thoroughly. You can then layer more if necessary to achieve the coverage you want.
Sounds simple enough, very much the advice of any foundation really.
Although I wasn't expecting much out of this foundation, as I typically am not a fan of Maybelline's foundation's... I proceeded by removing the lid and dipping my fingers into the jar. The texture of Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is indeed very mousse like. It's soft, fluffy and silky to the touch.
It is indeed a thicker foundation, but it's unique mousse texture makes it very easy to apply and blend in. It easy glides onto your skin, leaving it feeling soft and silky.
After finishing the application, I proceeded to apply my blush, and was pleasantly surprised at how it just glided beautifully onto my skin. This was a huge improvement over Clinique's, which gave a more blotchy look.
As for coverage, although it is thick, it's coverage is equal to that of a sheer foundation. Which really is not all that surprising considering how sheer and naturally it smoothes onto the skin. Although it does what is promises, it does even out my complexion fairly well. I simply use my Dermablend concealer over top of the foundation to conceal any problem areas it doesn't conceal.
If you have dark circles, blemishes, or anything you wish to conceal, this foundation alone won't cover it. However, with the added help of a concealer, Maybelline Dream Matte Foundation does give a very natural, sheer look.
That natural, sheer look tends to last me around 6 hours without touch-ups before any noticeable signs of fading, which I find to be about average.
Overall, Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse does give me the natural, non make-up-y look I was going for. It isn't the perfect foundation but with the help of my concealer, it sure does look like it!
