| mommy2jesse's Full Review: Dunkin Donuts Original Blend |
As stated in a previous post, I am a Java Junkie. I take great care when choosing whole beans and I have studied which brands and roasts are appropriate for which meals, desserts, and what time of day. I have attended Cupping parties and seminars to perfect my obsession. Cupping is much like wine tasting. The same process of wafting the aroma, tasting, spitting and rinsing are used for Cupping as are used for wine tasting. I have tried to use consideration when grinding my own beans. I have found how long to grind a particular brand and roast, and how finely or coarsely to grind to bring out the best possible flavor. I take coffee very seriously.
In my time as a Java Junkie, I have tasted many, many brands and roasts, and have been known to spend as much as $50 on a pound of coffee beans. However, in my quest to find the perfect brand and roast, I stumbled upon Dunkin Donuts brand of whole coffee beans. I had always heard raves about the company's coffee and regarded each comment as by someone who was a novice coffee drinker. In my snobbish way I disregarded these comments and continued to purchase expensive brands online from all over the world.
During a dinner party at a friend's house I was offered coffee to accompany my dessert. I accepted and was delighted at the aroma, flavor and body of the coffee offered to me. I inquired of the brand and roast given and was shocked to learn that it was, indeed, Dunkin Donuts brand. Upon returning home I researched the roasting process and found it far exceeding my expectations of a commercially made coffee bean. A few days later, when I began to run low on coffee, I searched for a local Dunkin Donuts in which to purchase their brand. I was, again, delighted to learn that most of the Dunkin Donut shops offer their whole bean roasts in their stores.
The aroma is somewhat floral, meaning a less bitter taste. The acidity (not to be confused with the acidity that causes indigestion) was pronounced, again regarding a less bitter taste; more citrusy. The flavor was bold, and the body was medium. It was not too heavy against the palate, nor was it too light.
I find that Dunkin Donuts brand coffee is excellent for any time of the day. It works well for a morning cup, or as a mid-afternoon pick-me-up. It also is tasteful with dessert. Dunkin Donuts is the choice, everyday whole coffee bean within my household.
Of course, when I prefer something more exotic, I will still reach for my cache of more expensive coffee.
