| rockymountains's Full Review: Dunkin Donuts Original Blend |
I grew up in New England, stopping at a local Dunkin Donuts on my way to school and then work each morning for a fresh cup of coffee. I moved half-way across the country and my world ended--NO DUNKIN DONUTS HERE! For 8 years I have been searching for THE coffee that comes even close to Dunkin's and never found it. NOW, they have fresh roasted bags right in our grocery aisles! The sun does shine and I do smile every day now!
The coffee actually tastes better than when brewed at the coffee shops, as I remember it. That's hard to believe since my machine isn't all that. I have a hankering for straight flavors, none of this "pumpkin spice" stuff that other coffee shops push you to try. The fresh aroma and smooth texture of Dunkin's Original can't be messed with, or outdone.
The grocer sells the 1 lb. ground bags in the cereal/coffee aisle here in Colorado for $6.99. It's drastically marked up from what I'd pay in the store back home or even have sent from online to my home, but the convenience is worth it to me. I have found this at a local Wal-Mart, too, for about half the price but for some reason it didn't taste as fresh (probably sat on the shelves for a while since mostly everyone out here is a Starbuck's addict). I have yet to find a bag of beans in local stores--all are already ground--but Dunkin Donuts does ship bags of whole beans from their website. They are packaged in thick, sealed packages with a freshness guard (there is a vent on the front of the bag that allows vapors out and air in that is supposed to keep the cofee fresher than a tightly sealed package).
The flavor is one that is unmistakable. There really are not words to express how smooth, silky and aromatic this coffee is. There is a great blend of beans so not to be tart or bitter. I have yet to come across a burned bean or an "off flavor" from any of the bags I've gotten (other than Wal-Mart's stale coffee). The Dunkin experience is like groundhog day--you always know what you're getting and it's exactly the same as the time before. No disappointments! I personally love that. There is, of course, a down side to always having the "same 'ol drink" so if you need a change there are several ways to fix that without changing your coffee brand!
I have been able to hook several friends and neighbors with this coffee! For those who do enjoy the added flavors and spices, Dunkin Original does respond well to syrups, spices and blended creamers added in. I have been known to spice up a few cups, add Nutella to a cup for a mocha-hazelnut twist to it and even french vanilla creamer now and then. Nothing beats the Dunkin Orignal though!
