| dargentini's Full Review: Duxiana Mattress |
After looking around for a replacement bed for our ten year old deluxe Sterns and Foster ($1200 in 1992) I would never have believed we would plunk down over $7000 for a new Dux bed had we not been blown away by its comfort and quality compared to other beds we tried.
First, we tried cheaper beds thinking they felt OK and that we could save ourselves big money... surely no sensible person would pay over a thousand or so for a good nights sleep. Well, let me tell you that in this case money does buy comfort. Soft, cushy, enveloping, yet supportive ...it was all there and with down pillows to die for. The Tempur-Pedic system we tried felt like sleeping on clay and the top Sealy and Beautyrest systems felt too firm for our taste and too much like our old S&F. After a week of searching, the last bed we tested was the Dux bed and though we tried to talk ourselves out of liking the system because of cost, we had to admit it was the best thing we had tried regardless of price.
Is it too expensive for what it is? That depends on your point of view. Many people would not bat an eye spending $25000 and more on a new truck or car that would be replaced in 5 to 10 years. So why the big deal about spending thousands on a bed that you would spend far more time in over the next 20 or so years? Because you spend 1/3 of your life in bed, it seems a small price to pay for true comfort. You make the call. What is your sleep worth. We sure don't regret the purchase.
As a side note: England's queen mother, before she died at a ripe old age, slept on a Dux bed for over 50 years. Tony Blair himself chose a Dux system over England's famous Vi-Spring bed and both of them could afford to buy any bed.
At least go check it out before you make a purchase just as a point of reference. If nothing else you'll know what to shoot for in your search for comfort. Good luck.
