mom4k's Full Review: Dyson DC07 Allergy Blue/Turquoise Bagless Upright ...
My ancient Bissell, was dying a slow painful death - duct tape can only do so much. And it was agonizing to find bags to fit my discontinued model. Combine that with my history of asthma, and a long haired cat, and my search criteria was set. I needed NO BAGS, good filtration, and pet hair sucking power. Oh, and did I mention that this time I wanted a vacuum that would really WOW me?
No Bags - WOW!,
No bags saves time and money! Take it from someone who could only order bags from the manufacturer at a premium price for the last couple of years. And Dyson has upped the performance and eliminated the mess of the old bagless models. Just press a button and pull a trigger and all of the dust is out of the bin and into your garbage. I close the bag around the bin before I shake and have not suffered adverse dust bunny allergic reactions.
Filtration - WOW! WOW!!
The Dyson vacuums come with The British Allergy Foundation Seal of Approval. I live on the other side of the pond, but I dont see any dust leakage and havent experienced my vac-wheeze syndrome when I am through vacuuming, so it gets the MOM4K Seal of Approval too.
There are lifetime pre-motor and post-motor filters on the vacuum. The post-motor filter does not require replacement or maintenance. The pre-motor filter should be cleaned every six months. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of cleaning. Just push a button to release the housing, then rinse the filter and cage in cold water until the water runs clear. And again, no wheeze-dust floating around.
Pet Hair Sucking Power - WOW! WOW!! WOW!!!
Yeh, I know you have read it before...this vacuum can really suck it up! I had ordered my Dyson and was waiting for delivery when my sister-in-law brought hers over to show-off. We had just vacuumed with the dying Bissell when she came. The amount of ICK that she got out of the carpet was astounding. When mine arrived we sucked years worth of hidden stuff from everywhere.
Other Things I Love About My Dyson - WOW! WOW!! WOW!!!WOW!!!!
-I think the Wand is GREAT! I love leaving my vacuum at the bottom of the stairs and reaching all the way to the top. Reaching blinds and window sills that are above my head. And I recently cleaned logs at our family cabin (a nasty chore that the wand accomplished in no time.)
-Having the three tools that click in and out. My old tools seemed to mysteriously jump off of the vacuum, I always have them at hand with the Dyson.
-Being able to see the cleaning accumulate in the bin.
MOM!
WOW upside down is MOM. These are the things that dont WOW this MOM about the Dyson Animal:
-I am worried about the durability of the plastic. There is little strip of purple plastic along the front of the cleaner head. Mine has developed faint white lines. They look like they could be stress lines where the plastic may eventually break. I also worry about the hinge on the clear bin. It just looks like it is one clumsy-kid-hit away from disaster.
-The release catch is located on the carrying handle and kids do get careless. I have only had one kid accidently drop the machine by releasing the switch while carrying, but it does seem like a design flaw.
-The cord is a little awkward and must be totally unwound to use the wand, but this is not a deal killer for me.
Other Stuff I had Questions about and wish I had known before I bought my Dyson:
All of the DC07s are the same machine. Yellow comes just with the three onboard attachments and a two year warranty. Red has the same things and adds the Floor Tool. Purple adds the Animal Turbo Tool and the Cleaning kit. And Lime Green adds a replacement filter and an extra year of warranty.
Factory Refurbished machines are available for about $150 off the new price and have only a six month warranty.
So why did I choose the Animal? I had questioned wether the tools were worth the extra cost. Would I need them? Would I use them? Then I came upon a an internet deal on a refurbished Animal that I couldnt refuse. My final purchase price after coupon was $274.99. A deal and a vacuum that certainly sucked me in and I am happy with my purchase.
I toyed with reselling the tools on E-bay. Have you noticed what people are willing to pay? I really dont use them much in my 2800 sq. ft. home. But I found they are the greatest at cleaning the cabin. The floor tool gets under beds and hide-a-bed sofas. The turbo tool works great on the logs and getting the hard to reach embedded dust under log railings.
So for me the Dyson is not perfect, but I am certainly pleased with the value of my purchase. In fact we are looking for another deal to buy a second Dyson for the cabin.
