| wil31's Full Review: Dyson DC08 Cylinder Bagless Canister Cyclonic Vacu... |
We've now bought 3 vacuum cleaners in the last dozen years or so. The last one we bought was a Panasonic MC-4850, and it was good, for a $100 vacuum cleaner. My only real complaint about it was that any time we needed new bags, we had to call our local vacuum cleaner store and ask them to order some in, then go pick them up a few days later when they arrived. That's why we decided our next vacuum cleaner just had to be bagless. We got the chance when, after 2 1/2 years of service, the Panasonic died suddenly and unexpectedly.
This time, we knew we wanted a Dyson. We'd done the research, read the ePinions, and the only reason we hadn't bought one last time was price. At that time, we didn't want to spend $500 or $600 on a vacuum cleaner. This time, we were ready to commit.
We've been using the Dyson DC08 Canister style for several months now, and we're very happy with it. The suction is far more powerful than the Panasonic, and remains steady even when the canister is full.
And when it's time to empty the clear bin (where the dirt goes after it's been sucked up), it's a quick, easy and fairly tidy process. And best of all, I don't have to mess around with a bag! I really, really like that. With a 2L/0.5gal capacity, it would be cool if the clear bin was a bit larger. Sometimes I can vacuum the whole house without having to stop and empty it, but not always.
The cord is long (7m/25ft), so I don't have to unplug and re-plug it every time I move into a different room, and the hose and telescopic wand also extend the reach even further.
It comes with attachments for upholstery, curtains and stairs, and they all work really well. And the way they store on the hose, so they're right there when you need one, is very clever. At first I thought they'd get in the way, or fall off, but so far they haven't.
We didn't buy the optional HEPA filter, hard floor tool, or the turbine head, but we're very happy with the job our Dyson does. After several months of use, our only complaint is that the hose tends to pinch or collapse in one certain spot, which cuts off the suction until we unkink it. If it continues to be a problem, we're looking into ordering a replacement hose for it, which should cost us about $40 or $50.
All in all, we are very happy with our Dyson. The bottom line is that is does what it's supposed to do -- clean our carpets -- very well. In fact, we like it so much, now we want to buy the new Dyson handheld model.
