Yeah, the two-cup and one-liter lines are about a quarter of an inch below the rim. It's the same reason most people don't use a Pyrex cup for measuring flour. You could probably eyeball it from the edge, but you'd be tempted to shake it down to the line - that would compress the flour, and Mama also always said that was a bad thing, too.

In the interests of full disclosure, I don't really use a knife to level the cup - I use a chopstick...

so THAT's why. I read the review through twice trying to figure out why you couldn't use it for flour!

Mama taught me that precise measurement of flour is critical to breadmaking, so that's one thing I don't use this measuring cup for. I still use my regular measuring cups so that I can level the top with a knife edge. It's when you're making a recipe that calls for a cup and a half of chopped onions and three tablespoons of minced garlic that I find it most helpful - that and the strange "1 cup plus 2 tablespoons" conversions that I see on occasion.

So, send me some of that Christmas bread?

I also am into break making and trying out new and different recipes. I have no dogs to get excited but my children sure loved it in their Christmas Goodies boxes.

May have to look for this little measuring item as I have three sets of measuring cups and spoons I go through with each batch of breads.

The 95- and 92-pound Labradors both love bread and get half a (small) slice each every morning at breakfast. Both - the Chocolate, especially - are far more fond of homemade than store-bought. Hence their ecstasy at the smell of fresh-baked bread.

Though in all honesty, they're both so spoiled that they're ecstatic most of the time...

I'm not a dog person (Reply to this comment)

but why would dogs be happy about bread-making day? BTW, that little 4-lb Chihuahua I'm holding I dognapped at the beach. It's not mine.
