Pros: The incredible suction and the fact that the machine loses no suction as it fills.
Cons: heavy
The Bottom Line: If you want a very powerful vacuum that's easy to maintain and costs nothing in the long run to operate, buy the Dual Cyclone Whirlwind 4880.

| againsttheodds's Full Review: Eureka 4880 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum |
Bought this Eureka vacuum after returning my Sunbeam (which damaged my carpet). This machine, while heavy, has the best suction of any vacuum I've ever used. The filter before the motor is washable, and I have done so twice in the past month. The filter after the motor doesn't get dirty, so I don't think it will need changing. The dirt bin has two compartments that are together. One is for large dirt, the other is for fine dirt. There's a screen that keeps the fluff and lint out of the second cyclone cup.
When you empty the cleaner, you remove the cup and dump it in the trash can. The fact that the dirt is trapped away from the filters keeps the suction strong. What I like MOST is the fact that when the handle is upright (like when using the tools) the brush roller STOPS. NO carpet damage.
For cleaning the kitchen floor, the brush roller also stops.
And when cleaning the car outside in the driveway, the brush also stops. This is the greatest feature, to be able to control whether or not the brush turns.
The dusting brush is small, but picks up pet hair from carpeted stairs very well. It also can esily reach ceiling fan blades. It's a quiet machine. The brush is very stiff, so moving the vacuum forward is very easy. Pulling it back disturbs the nap (makes it stand upright) which I like but it's a little harder to pull back than push forward. Oh well, it cleans like a dream and doesn't cost me a thing for filters or bags.
At 20 pounds, it isn't for everyone. But I'm young enough that it doesn't bother me and I mostly want the dirt to come up the first time over. It does with the Eureka. This model is different from all other Eureka cleaners in that it uses a dual cyclone cleaning system without a filter in the middle of the bucket of dirt. Clean up is VERY easy.
