Pros: it's Jake! Probably the 2nd coolest Rescue Hero!
Cons: stilted speech. Mommy can't stop laughing at him.
The Bottom Line: If you can keep from laughing, Jake IS the second coolest Rescue Hero in my son's book, which makes him a must-have for your Mission Select collection.

| pippadaisy's Full Review: Fisher-Price Rescue Heroes: Mission Select Jake Ac... |
My son received a whole slew of Fisher Price Rescue Heroes paraphernalia for his birthday. However, we had a big problem; only three of his figures were Mission Select figures, so only three would work with his Mission Select Mountain Action Command Center and Mission Select Rescue Firetruck. Of course, to appease him and his sister and cut down on the fighting, we had to get more Mission Select figures. Enter Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice.
~&~ The Basics ~&~
Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice is about six inches tall, with a "new" uniform just for the Mission Select line consisting of a metallic blue jumpsuit, big black and silver boots, black gloves, a bronze chest belt with Mission Select emblem (I never understand if this is for ammunition or what), silver epaulets, his black police hat with silver emblem, silver badge, and silver sunglasses (all molded).
In addition, you get the huge metallic blue and bronze Mission Select backpack. The water cannon apparatus on Jake's backpack is black with silver accents, and there is a large silver antenna on a black base, what appears to be some sort of silver radar equipment, and a silver rubbery "water cannon" fits into Jake's hand. As with the rest of the figures in this line, on the backpack are a neon orange triangle and a neon orange dial. Spin the dial until the "mission" picture you want is in the viewing area (the rest is covered with a clear smoke grey plastic), press the red button in the center and Jake will talk about the mission you have selected. There are six missions: a tornado, a fire, an erupting volcano, an earthquake, an avalanche, and a flood. With the dial set to the flood picture, pressing it several times elicits the following phrases from Jake:
"This water. Is active. Sound the alert."
"Keep back. The water. With sandbags. Let's roll!"
"Flood. On the move. Our EVAC. Is in danger."
"Flood. Alert."
"This water. Is ruining. My shoes. Let's roll!"
(I'm sorry... I have to stop there. The homosexual stereotypical references are writing themselves here and I'm laughing too hard to continue listening to Jake.)
The backpack needs two AAA batteries that install via a Phillips-head screwed battery door. Batteries are included, but may be worn down from use on store shelves.
Unlike the other figures we have from this line, Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice did not come with a videotape. Not that I'm disappointed, but worth mentioning that only specially marked packages included the video.
~&~ Parents Perspective ~&~
Every Rescue Heroes review I write seems to note the porn star names and overall odd gender roles they seem to have. Ariel Flyer from this collection hardly seems like a female, and here I have Jake all dressed up in his police uniform worrying about his SHOES in the flood. Carson from Queer Eye would be SO proud.
Aside from my issues with the design team, both of my children LOVE these toys. They are recommended for ages three and up because some of the toys have small pieces, but all the figures I've seen from this line should be just fine for a two-year-old. The chunky build (very similar to my son's Disney Buzz Chunky Action Figure) makes them easy for little ones to carry around, even if the backpacks do make them a bit harder (and heavier) to carry.
I always have an issue with the intense marketing behind this toy line. Fisher Price is constantly releasing new lines, which are essentially repaints of older figures with a different accessory and story-line behind them. At least with the Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice that we got, we are spared the 22-minute video which is really a commercial, plus the regular commercials on the video, which amount to a half-hour plea for the children to beg for more of these toys.
I also have a hard time with how stilted the speech is on these figures. My son has a speech delay and is just learning how to talk, and I can't imagine that the odd inflection and speech patterns can be good for him to hear, and I'm just hoping that he doesn't start to emulate them.
~&~ Play Value ~&~
Of course, all my griping and complaining is moot next to my son's love of all things Rescue Heroes. Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice is probably his second-favorite figure after his all-time favorite Billy Blazes, and this figure was a welcome addition to his collection.
I've come to the conclusion that these figures are just the boy version of Barbie. My son has the townhouse (Mountain Action Command Center), minivan (Rescue Firetruck) and of course, all the "dolls" that he's managed to get his mitts on. My daughter also enjoys playing with these figures, although in her world, rather than the missions my son jibbers about in his own language, Matt Medic usually marries Ariel Flyer.
These toys stand up to a LOT of play, and Fisher Price Rescue Heroes Mission Select Jake Justice is no exception. I've noticed with my nephews' figures that the paint often starts to chip after a while, but that's to be expected. Aside from that, these figures have all been through a LOT with my son throwing them, dropping them, and sleeping with them, and they are no worse for the wear.
Both of my older children enjoy playing with these toys, and I'm glad that Jake has joined the crew, because it reduces the fights over Billy. Then again, it adds to fights over who gets Jake.
