It seems that everyone is having babies. It has been a year since Hurricane Ike ravaged our area. Coincidence? Maybe, but I think that perhaps after such a tragedy, intimacy is a form of comfort in such a situation so kudos to all the new mothers around here. We need some more joy in our lives and babies always have a way of producing it.
When it comes to buying a gift for a new mother, I always think about the comfort of the baby AND the mother. Having had children myself, I know it is important that mothers get a break now and then. It is easy to hold your baby for prolonged periods when he/she first arrives but in order not to create a pattern, I think it is so important to put the baby down whenever he/she is content and take a break yourself.
There are so many products nowadays that enable you to do so but one of the most popular is the baby bouncer seat. It is safe for newborns through the age when they are able to sit up unassisted. It also allows you to still interact with the baby and have easy access if needed.
In my opinion, it is a necessity and it is my first choice for a gift for a new mother. I trust in the Fisher Price brand as I have bought many of their products over the years without any problems. My choice is for a recent birth of a beautiful little boy was the Soothe N Play Woodlands Bouncer.
The product:
The Soothe N Play Woodlands Bouncer has a metal frame sturdy enough for babies up to 3 months and has rubber, slip-proof pads on the base. The seat itself is made from a strong, cotton-like fabric which is padded for comfort. The extra padding around the metal frame eliminates any discomfort in those areas. The animal theme consists of squirrels, owls, raccoons, hedgehogs and moles and is colored in browns, oranges and greens, perfect for a baby boy.
The large, carrying handle is very secure and being covered in padded fabric also, makes it comfortable to lift. On the handle, dangle a plush padded owl, a plastic hedgehog and a plastic raccoon attached with Velcro. This allows you to interchange them, wash them or use them independently as separate toys. They have vivid colors and different textures to stimulate your baby’s senses and distract them with play. The handle also detaches for better access to a newborn and the seat pad is removable and washable.
The extra asset to this seat is the calming vibrator (requiring one D Alkaline battery), which is turned on by a small switch in the front of the seat. The whole seat vibrates gently and I was happy to find out that it sends Julian, our latest birth, right to sleep. What a Godsend for Mamma.
Conclusion:
You can’t go wrong buying the Soothe N Play Woodlands Bouncer as a gift for new mothers. I have bought three of them now and have been thanked profusely by all three mothers. There are about six different themes for boys and girls so there is plenty to choose from. At a price of $32.00, I buy them from Target and I think they are worth every penny. The product is safe and soothing for baby, a great help for Mamma and also keeps baby close by and accessible.
