| jcrismon's Full Review: Fiskars Hardshell Base Kangaroo Container 9413 |
No, I haven't moved to the Land Down Under and no, Smithswoodside, is not my new neighbor -- but I do have two Kangaroos that have taken up residence in my garage. The mother is a 33 gallon Fiskars Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Container and the other is the baby-size 10 gallon Kangaroo.
After years of lugging around heavy plastic trash containers, or just using a large black leaf bag that never stayed open, I have progressed to an easier way of cleaning up the garden and yard, as well as other uses I'll share a later in this review.
The Fiskars Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Container is a pop-up design, similar to some car window shades. It folds down flat to approximately 3 inches and can then hang in the garage or utility room, which takes up much less room than a plastic garbage can. The mechanism of pop-up and folding down is a corrosion resistant steel spring which is covered with vinyl-coated polyester.
The Fiskars Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Container is light-weight and has padded handles. It is easy to carry from one end of the yard to the other, and the hard shell bottom keeps the container upright while you put in your leaves, lawn clippings, or whatever. The bottom has ventilation holes to prevent water from building up or mildew from developing. Although I prefer using a bag just to keep my Kangaroo in tip-top shape, it is not necessary. If you don't use a bag, there are dump handles that make emptying the container easy.
Recently I discovered another garden use. I usually buy the large bags of potting soil and cut open the bag and attempt to fold it down in such a way that the dirt won't spill out -- however, the bag would usually fall over, spilling dirt. Now I put a garbage bag in the Fiskars Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Container and pour the potting soil in and seal it up with a twist tie. When I do any potting, I put the bag back in the container and carry the container to the pots I need to fill, and there is no falling over and spilling.
In addition to gardening, there are other uses for your Kangaroos. Our family goes on camping and fishing trips. They lie flat in the car until you need them -- as trash containers, or to hold dirty laundry in the tent, or for collecting pine cones and other treasures in the camp grounds. Around the house, I find them useful for carrying laundry from the bedroom hampers to the laundry room in one trip, collecting trash from each of the rooms for trash day, or for cleaning out the van.
There are knock-off marsupials out there but I suggest you buy a Kangaroo -- otherwise you could end up with an everyday possum. The material and stitching definitely makes the Fiskars Hard Shell Base Kangaroo Container a superior product. It is UV, tear and mildew resistant. The 30 gallon Hard Shell Kangaroo Container measures: 22" D X 28" H, and the 10 gallon size: 15" D X 18" H. The price is about $25-30 for the 30 gallon Hard Shell, and it is worth every penny.
Why not discover your own uses for these handy, light-weight containers? I'm sure your neighbors won't mind if you store a couple of Kangaroos in your garage too.
Other Notes of Interest Did you know that Fiskars is one of the oldest companies in the world, dating back to 1600's?? They make much more than garden containers.
