I almost didn't write this review because I noticed that the couple existing reviews already seemed to capture the basic essence of the Five-Ten Spire. It is a great, comfortable, all around climbing shoe ... no tricks, no gimmicks, no fancy do-dads ... just a basic climbing shoe ... something to attach your feet to the rubber, which will eventually and hopefully attach to the rock. And, when I think of the Five-ten Spire, I mean rock, real rock. You see, I'm a gym rat. Sure, I get outside on the crags dozens of times a year, including some great places when I travel. But, my bread-and-butter climbing is 2-3 nights per week in the rock gym. And, I have other shoes for the rock gym. The Five-Ten Spire is my exception. I bought them for outdoor climbing ... shoes with good rubber, a decent edge, and a reasonable fit. I wanted something that I could wear around the crags all day, without pain, without constantly taking my climbing shoes off and putting them back on. And, the Five-Ten Spire filled the bill perfectly. And, at a nicely moderate $99 list price, it's one of my precious few pieces of climbing gear that I bought at full price. Sure, I traded away a bit of performance, a bit of sensitivity. But, Hey, the world cup organizers aren't exactly beating down my door. So, a good, solid, comfortable, well-priced shoe is what I was after ... And that's just what I got!!!
