| jps246's Full Review: Fountains of Bellagio |
For one of the best free shows on the Las Vegas Strip, you should spend some time in front of the Bellagio Hotel & Casino watching the choreographed fountains dance to the music.
Seriously, if youve never seen them in person, the experience of the fountains is well worth the visit. Years after my first visit to Las Vegas, I still enjoy standing and watching the fountains do their thing.
Where do I find the fountains?
The Fountains of Bellagio are located directly in front of the Bellagio Hotel & Casino which is located roughly in the middle of the main Las Vegas Boulevard area (to the north of MGM Grand, NY-NY and Mandalay Bay, but south of Treasure Island, the Wynn and the Mirage). The large pool in front of the hotel is home to the fountains and the best view is from the sidewalk directly adjacent to the pool next to Las Vegas Boulevard. Views are also good from along the sidewalks on the Bellagios access drive if you happen to be walking up to the hotel and casino when the show starts. There are also views from some of the restaurants and hotel rooms.
When do I see them?
During the week the fountains run from the mid-afternoon through the late night (roughly 3 to midnight) and run either on the half an hour during the day or every 15 minutes at night. On weekends they start a bit earlier, but follow the same general schedule.
What should I expect?
The fountain show at the Bellagio isnt simply some fountains spurting water into the sky. The fountains themselves are choreographed almost perfectly to the music that is playing throughout the show. Not only that, but the fountains are lit so at night the water itself is glowing in the fountains.
Each fountain show lasts for a few minutes and includes one song. The songs are a mix of opera music, classical music and Broadway show tunes, along with a few other songs thrown in here and there. Once the song starts, the fountains literally dance to the music. The entire system is computer controlled and the choreography between the music and the fountain is at times, simply amazing.
The show is great both during the day and at night, but I honestly like the nighttime shows a lot more. The lights on the Bellagio are turned down and the lights for the fountains come up. The fountains themselves are lit and its just an amazing sight.
Its really hard to adequately describe the experience except to say that once you see it, you will probably love it. Really, if you are in Las Vegas, this is a show that you cant miss. My partner and I still stop at the Fountains of Bellagio on every visit to Las Vegas, just because we both enjoy it so much.
Also unlike some of the other free shows on the Strip, the Fountains of Bellagio are constantly changing as each show uses a different song (though after some time some fo the songs are repeated) so if you stay for the next show, the song and the choreography of the fountains will be different. This makes the show that much more interesting because its almost always something different.
Too Windy?
The only thing to be mindful about is that if it gets too windy, they wont run the fountain show. They will usually make announcements about the wind if theres a question about whether or not the show will run and usually when they cancel the show because of high winds, thats it for that night.
Crowds?
The shows can get crowded especially on Friday and Saturday nights, but not so crowded that you would be unable to see the show. Most people show up and stake out a view point along the sidewalk next to the pond and if you dont get a good spot for the first show, just wait for another fifteen minutes for the next one to start up.
Final Thoughts
I tell everyone going to Las Vegas that if theres one thing that you have visit, its the Fountains of Bellagio. This show is arguably the best free show on the Las Vegas Strip and its an experience that you probably wont find anywhere else.
If you are visiting Las Vegas, make sure you stop at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino and you watch at least one show at the Fountains of Bellagio.
