nasedo's Full Review: Frigidaire FAX054P7A Thru-Wall/Window Air Conditio...
I bought this as a replacement for my old air conditioner.
First, the bottom of the case that sits on the window sill is not straight, resulting in the right side extension angling up. From checking the display model in the store, this apparently applies to all units of this model. Now, I can live with that by just tucking some extra insulation in the resulting open space.
The unit does a decent job of cooling my second floor bedroom of about 130 sq. ft. and the energy saver and automatic fan speed adjustment functions are useful for saving energy.
Now when it comes to setting the cooling, you need to set it 4 degrees below the desired temperature. For example, if you want the room at 74 degrees, you need to set the unit at 70. The Frigidaire manual accounts for this being caused by stored up heat in the walls and furniture and as time goes by, the air conditioner's setting and desired room temperature will become synchronized.
The really bad thing is the EXTREMELY LOUD low bass noise that it makes. This could be heard in the first floor kitchen on the other side of the house and as a matter of fact, heard in every room of the house. It is unbearable for sleeping.
As if that's not bad enough, the slide-in filter eventually started rattling.
Now, I tried bolstering the outside of the unit with boards in order to cut down on the noise, but this was useless.
If not for the noise, I would have kept it, but it went back to the store.
The operating noise makes all the difference, this is an air conditioner to avoid.
