Pros: Vivid, stain-free colors, plastic coating, durable.
Cons: Bowl is wide and flat, handle isn't the easiest to grip.
The Bottom Line: Spoon is difficult to grip for younger toddlers and bowl size is large for a small-mouthed baby. Otherwise, the spoon is very nice and durable.

| iowamommy's Full Review: Gerber Toddler Spoon |
My 16-month-old daughter has been using Gerber toddler spoons off and on for a few months now. She originally used them mainly for playing and pretending to eat while I spoon fed her. I let her do this so she could get used to the spoon and she wouldn't be grabbing as much at the one I was using to feed her. At this point, though, she can attempt to feed herself and actually gets some food into her mouth as the rest ends up in her hair, on her face and down into her lap. Practice makes perfect, and I guess she is practicing!
What are the Gerber toddler spoons like?
The spoons are quite simple. The handle is metal, wide at the end, and rather short, at about three inches long and has the Gerber name engraved on it. The bowl of the spoon is rather flat and wide and is coated with plastic. It doesn't feel like that rubbery coating that is on most baby spoons. It is harder than that.
My spoons came in a 4-pack with vivid green and purple colors. There were also other colors available.
What do I like about them?
The spoons are great at hiding stains. There is no discoloration at this point. They are dishwasher safe, and I love the fact that they stay put in the silverware basket, unlike some all-plastic spoons we have. The plastic bowl is nice and eliminates the scraping-teeth-on-metal sound that I despise!
I like the fact that they come in a package of four. It seems I am always leaving a spoon at Grandma's house or there is one temporarily lost in the bottom of the diaper bag. Having a few of these on hand makes it easier to get my hands on one when I want it.
What would I improve?
The bowl of this spoon seems excessively wide to me. Maybe my daughter just has a small mouth, but this thing looks so big when she uses it. She ends up with food coming off the sides as she slides it in, because her mouth isn't big enough to comfortably fit it in there. I first noticed this when I would try to help her guide the food in. I couldn't even do a neat job. Previously, I thought it was just her aiming skills. As she grows a bit bigger, this shouldn't be much of a problem, but as of now the bowl is too flat and wide!
The handle of the spoon is okay, but could be a little thicker to make it easier to hold. It gets really slippery when coated with food, and there isn't much to grip.
Final thoughts
All in all, I am satisfied with the spoons, although I think a bigger toddler would do better with these. A beginner eater may have trouble keeping a good grip, and the size of the bowl makes it more difficult to get the food into the mouth without extra spilling.
