I do a lot of work with wood, wooden chairs, tables, cabinets, and other items. I was flipping through a magazine one day and saw an ad for Gorilla Glue. I read a bit and was wowed. I told Hubby about it so he would add it to his shopping list when it came to stocking stuffers for me. I'm odd, I like dirt, rocks, mulch, glue, wood, sandpaper and the like as gifts.
I also checked it out the next time I was in Lowes. It bonds, wood, stone, leather, ceramic, metal plastic and is waterproof indoors and outdoors. I make birdhouses using stone and ceramic. I make ceramic bird feeders out of teacups. This was the glue for me! It's paintable and stainable, solvent free, dries light tan in color and is crazy strong. You can sand it and it bonds in about 2 hours, it begins to harden in 15 minutes. I was sold.
I've used it on rubber, wood, ceramic, plastic and metal with good results. Clean up means wiping immediately with something wet or alcohol.. In order to avoid skin contact, I wear gloves as recommended.
You can chisel, scrape or sand any hardened glue. Application: For small areas use a toothpick or skewer. Small smooth areas don't seem to bond as well. It was fabulous for repairing some of my older bird houses. I tightened some chair railing with it and a chair seat. I love to pick up old furniture on the street and fix and faux paint the piece which always seems to involve some fixing of broken areas.
This glue gave me so much more lee way with broken wooden pieces. It expands so it fills in cracked areas nicely.Keep in mind it expands to about 3-4 times what you apply. It's great for filling in hairline cracks but again, use only a small amount at a time. It also works fine with a bit of moisture so when working with an area wipe it down with something damp first like a sponge, this won't harm the bond ability and will give you a more professional look.
It looks like honey and can be spread around when you first apply it. Most big pieces will need clamping. As I mentioned use it sparingly on visible areas, you can be more generous if it's a hidden area. Quick clean up is a helpful suggestion so keep something nearby, a moist rag, a sponge or even a Q tip moistened for tiny areas. They also have Gorilla tape and various size bottles of Gorilla glue available at most Hardware and large Home Supply stores.
I advise cleaning the tip and closing it up tightly though oddly enough it doesn't seem to harden up in the dispenser area. It has a one year shelf life but I've certainly had mine a lot longer with no hitches in it's usefulness.
Along with the 1" Gorilla Tape and Gorilla Wood Glue there is now a Gorilla Super Glue that is impact resistant and a Gorilla Glue Precision Pen. I also understand they have a "dries white" formula.
Gorilla Glue has been featured in Woman's Day, Cabelo's, Popular Mechanics and Popular Science magazines. It has been named Popular Science Best of What's New and Popular Mechanic's Editor's Choice. $5.00/2 oz. Gorilla Glue "For the toughest jobs on planet Earth" according to the bottle. Look for the handsome Gorilla on the bottle.
