| nursingmom's Full Review: Graco Jumpster |
Mom and dad always said I was a timid baby, and I have made it my mission to encourage my son to be the opposite. The Graco Jumpster is not for the faint of heart (parent or baby) because this jumper is the equivalent of bungee jumping for baby- only completely safe when used properly. So…if you think you can handle it…read on, because the Graco Jumpster is extreme fun!
What Is This Thing ?
It’s really quite simple: Starting from the bottom up, the Graco Jumpster is a cloth “suspension seat” attached to a plastic tray similar to a high chair tray. My son’s cloth seat is in a navy with teal polka dot print. Attached to the tray are three nylon woven straps, one on each side of the tray and one centered in the back. The three straps are threaded into a three-pronged plastic holder, which joins the three straps into one. The central strap is adjustable, much like a lap seat belt, and this strap is attached to the best part of the jumpster…the spring. The spring is approximately 2” in diameter and about 1’ long. Attached to the spring is a tension clamp which will grip most door frames.
Is it Hard to Assemble?
Not at all! Your little tyke can be jumping within minutes of taking it out of the box. The only difficulty was hooking the grommets of the cloth seat to the hooks on the tray, but this has become a much easier task as the seat is stretched by my son’s jumping and it is washed over and over.
Is it Easy to Take Care Of?
This is pretty easy to clean and take care of. The tray wipes down with warm soapy water and the cloth seat can be tossed in the wash and won’t shrink. My son’s jumper seat has been washed too many times to count because this is by far his most favorite place to “download” in his pants, is you know what I mean, and with all that jumping, things can get pretty messy.
Is it Durable?
Of course it is, honey! The Graco Jumpster is meant for rough play, and the spring is more than adequate to support the weight limits Graco recommends. Please, please, PLEASE check and test your door frame for any weakness before you put your precious little munchkin in the jumpster, and don’t let him or her jump without supervision.
Alright, So What Makes The Graco Jumpster a Must Have?
The Graco Jumpster has been SO entertaining for my son and the rest of the family! When I first put Max into the jumpster, he didn’t know what to do, but I gently tugged on the spring so he could experience a bit of the motion. My parents were a bit apprehensive about the whole thing because I was afraid of my jumpster. My parents said I would sit in it and have the most tortured look on my face, and only make a few timid jumps for posterity’s sake and then want out. Well, my kid must have inherited my husband’s fearless Marine Corps attitude, because he was an expert jumper by the end of the day. My entire family laughed and cheered Max on, and the more encouragement he got, the higher he jumped, laughing and drooling all the way. Max loves his jumpster so much that I have to hide it from him when I don’t want him in it or else he’ll start whining, and I have to limit his time in it because he’ll spend HOURS in it if I don’t! This is a beautiful thing though when I’m trying to get dinner ready. He’ll jump all through dinner preparation and then all through dinner, enabling my husband and I to have a hot and uninterrupted meal with adult conversation. This is a good thing!
A Word of Advice
I strongly recommend that you put some socks on your little jumper’s feet when you set him or her in the Graco Jumpster because a prolonged amount of exuberant jumping may cause blisters on their tender little toes. Also, watch the carpet too! My son’s jumper is located in a transition doorway, meaning the flooring changes from wood to carpet at the threshold. He got a blister from the wood before I got smart and put socks on him, and he gets a good grip on the carpet and rips up the pile, so I think I may start putting some sort of blanket underneath him. Your baby may be able to move from side to side in the doorway which could pose a risk for pinched fingers if the baby is gripping the tray on its sides, so watch it! Also, singing “Jump, Jump, Jump, Jump” to the tune of the song for “Meow Mix” makes your baby jump higher. This is unproven, but it’s a theory of mine.
So…buy a Graco Jumpster and enjoy!
