| Prncess's Full Review: Graco Neat Seat Reclining Adjustable |
I am slightly spoiled in that I already have 2 highchairs. One is a booster type that sits on a adult chair, the other is an older one that I plan to keep at church from here on out. We now have 2 "babies" so another highchair was in order.
My original plan was to head to KMart to get the Cosco that was on sale. As the Murphy's law of sales goes, they were out of the Cosco one just a couple days into the sale. Having a crying baby with me and 3 cranky older children, I caved in and spent an extra $ 20.00 on the Graco NeatSeat Reclining Adjustable Highchair. To be honest, this is one time I am glad I did such a foolish thing!
I am the fix-it person in my home so I got the fun job of assembling this baby. That was NOT the fun part! It took me over a half-hour to put this highchair together. Without kiddy interruptions at that.
The bad part out of the way (assembly is required unless you can talk the sales person into selling you the floor model) let me tell you about the good. I wanted a reclining highchair so I could put my 2 month old in it while we eat our meals or I use the computer. This chair reclines into 3 positions. All the way back (but not as far as I would have liked)for very small infants, alittle further up for an infant who is almost sitting, and all the way upright for little ones like my 2 year old. Once I got the hang of it, it was easy to adjust the seat. (One note: do not try to adjust the seat while a child is in it.) It has a bar on the back of the chair that you slide up while pushing the seat back. Very smooth to operate!
Aesthetically, the chair is pleasing to look at. My model is covered in a vinyl navy blue plaid. The vinyl makes it super easy to clean by just wiping it down. This chair has the 5-point system for buckling little ones up. There are 2 straps which fit over the shoulders of the child and hook near the waist so baby is very safe (even so, do not leave a child unattended even if it appears he or she is safe).
One of my favorite features in the newer highchairs is the crotch bar. So many times my babies have grown bored of sitting and let themselves slide downward in their highchairs. I do not know why the powers that be never invented this before! The crotch bar prevents a baby from sliding all the way down.
My all time favorite feature is the huge tray. It is made of a durable plastic and is spacious enough to hold a real plate (LOL if your child is not the typical little dumper!). In one corner is a circular area to hold a sippy cup (or Cheerios). The other corner has another area to hold whatever you want to put there (shredded cheese comes to my mind since my 2 year old loves it!). To clean the tray I just spritz it with some disinfectant spray and then hold it under the shower. As for the one-handed feature (to put the tray on or remove it) I have still have not gotten the hang of it but it is a nice feature.
The entire seat itself is made of the durable molded plastic that the tray is made of. Super easy to clean and strong! I expect this highchair to last along time!
This seat can also be adjusted in height. I have not gotten the hang of that feature either but a highchair that can grow with a child is a wonderful idea! Adjusted to the lowest position allows it to be used as a toddler chair.
The chair is foldable but really is too bulky to fold very much. That is the only downfall I can see besides assembly.
I would give this product 5 stars for versatility, ease of use, and price.
