| tangento's Full Review: Heather McGregor - Guide to Glenwood Canyon |
This is a very straightforward guide to one of the most beautiful and breathtaking areas in the United States. 'A Guide to Glenwood Canyon' is actually more of a brochure than a book, yet gives plenty of bang for the buck. (cover price $5.00) Pages 1-27 comprise a West-to-East, trail-by-trail, gorge-by-gorge, creek-by-creek hiking guide to all of the different areas of Glenwood Canyon. This is followed by a brief but information-packed modern history of the area.
Anyone who has driven the stretch of Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon was most certainly impacted by the profound beauty and modern engineering wizardry of the area. It has been called by many "the most beautiful stretch of Interstate Highway in the U.S." and I tend to agree -- having driven through for the first time in May, 2006. I sought out this book and others as a result of this trip.
This humble yet enlightening, vertically-leafed booklet sparked my interest in the Glenwood Canyon park far beyond what can be seen from I-70, and I definitely plan on returning for a much closer look.
