| vestiano's Full Review: Hewlett Packard OmniBook 6000 (F2150WT) PC Noteboo... |
I am a Technical Analyst for one of the biggest banks in Canada, so a fast and powerful laptop is extremely important for me. I run computationally-intensive programs for design of data-centers, so I need a laptop that is a very reliable. I need to travel a lot with it too.
I was given an HP OmniBook 6000 (best of the line for our bank), it replaced my temporary desktop. My first positive impressions of the laptop were:
1. Thin
2. Lightweight (even with 1 battery inside!)
3. Great design (colors and style - silver and black)
4. Sturdy construction (very compact)
5. Long battery life (1 battery = 4 hours)
6. Hot swappable components (DVD/floppy)
7. Full set of cables (mouse/keyboard, power, LAN, telephone)
8. Screen resolution as good as a monitor.
I did not read the user manual and initial configuration was very, very easy. I was quite happy with what I got, worked perfectly.
I have been using it very intensively for a 3 months, 9 hours per day (on average) doing design and calculations.
I carry it wherever I go, it loads very quickly and works for more than 4 hours on the battery. And it looks like a corporate executive's laptop!
Here are some of the issues that I encountered:
1. Overheating. The under-side of the laptop heats my desk when I am using it. Typical for a laptop.
2. Standby mode problems. The initial settings were for a 10 minute standby. To wake it up, I would press the big blue "wake-up" button, the green light would flash and a cursor would appear in the upper left corner.
But the laptop would not wake up - I would get a blank screen with a cursor. I would press the button again, then the power button a few more times but to no avail. I had this problem 3 times (2 of those times the laptop "woke up" in 2-3 minutes). Now I have turned off the standby function.
3. Noisy ventilation. Very rarely a small inside fan turns on and makes quite a some noise.
I consider these three rare problems very minor, typical for a laptop. The OmniBook has given me power and performance more than a standard laptop, more than I could ask for.
I believe the great design, the fact that it is lightweight and its long battery life put it in the very top of the laptop rankings.
After using the HP OmniBook 6000 for a while, I am sure I have been given the optimal computer for the intensive job I am doing. I can strongly recommend it to an IT professional or an executive.
