| caithnessfan's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion ze1210 (F5398H) PC Notebo... |
I have had my HP ZE1210_L for several weeks now and so far am mostly happy with it.
I got it when I broke down and got cable internet access
for home and found out that my computer that I've had for
a couple of years wasn't compatible.
After a lot of checking and price comparing I found a place
that had 2 mail in rebates for $100 each which brought it
down to a reasonable price for value.
I paid $1479 after taxes and before rebates and ran home wit it. (oaky, drove home safely but expeditiously.)
Things I like
I was able to hook it up to the cable modem with no
trouble and played around with it for hours and hours.
The 20 gig hard drive is plenty big enough for me for ages
on end as long as I occasionally clean up and back up
items and programs that I seldome use.
It has great rich colors and crisp immages in the 14"
screen.
Power and other special function buttons are back lit in bright blue.
easy access to phone jack, mic, speaker/headphones, and USB port on the side.
Smooth fast running AMD processor.
Scroll bar on mouse pad.
Things I don't care for so much
Mouse pad is a bit hair triggered, it's extremely easy to
accidentally double click using the mouse pad.
No separate number key pad (yes I want it all and I want it
now) It's a nitnoid complaint but I think it'd be a nice
feature.
No external way to adjust speaker volume. (A scroll button
or knob on the side would be great) When I tried out the
built in modem for the the first time at my parents' house
I nearly blew out my ear drums when it connected with the
volume turned all the way out.
The battery that came with it is supposed to last 4 hours
but with high use it only lasted me about an hour and 45
min.
I don't particularly care for WIN XP since I use my system for games as well and so far I've found seveal of my curent games (1 of them is only about 3 weeks to a month old) don't like to run or run well with XP.
Summary
This system runs extremely well and fast for e-mail and internet use but has some quirks with some games.
The 20 Gig storage is more than enough for me and the memory at 256 is good but could be upgraded.
The sound is well above average quality and the graphics resolution is fine and crisp.
I have no real regrets about this purchase and would most likely do it again as long as I didn't find anything less expensive with the same features.
