| djfry's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion ze1250 (F5400H) PC Notebo... |
Let me start off by saying this is an outstanding performer. I do a lot of video and music editing on my desktop and needed something that would perform the same on the road. My desk top is a custom built system with:
Soyo Dragon Ultra Lite 333 motherboard
AMD XP1700 processor
256 Mb DDR memory
64Mg GEFORCE 4
SCSI drives and 7200 RPM IDE system drive
Firewire
40* CD-RW
DVD drive
My desktop performs very very well. I really did a lot of research to find the perfect laptop for me with in $1,800 range. After about 4 months of research, I settled on the Hewlett Packard ZE1250 laptop. What a awesome choice this has been. The ZE1250 has:
AMD XP1800 processor (mobile)
512 Mb SD memory
32 meg shared video memory
30 gig 4,200rpm harddrive
Firewire
USB
*8 CD-RW and DVD combo
15 inch display
2 Type II or 1 Type III PC card slot
Touch pad mouse with separate scroll
6.6 lbs total weight
and more
For more than a month now this machine has exceeded all expectations. It seems to perform as well as my desktop for rendering and games. It does have slightly lower benchmark numbers then my desktop (especially in Graphics). Sometimes I feel like it outperforms my desktop with some of the applications I work with. I am able to perform full video edits of footage I shoot with my Sony VX1000 DV camera and full edits of music I produce. This laptop has impressed me so much that I decided to write my first review anywhere on any purchases I have made. There is a lot of talk around town that this laptop will lock up on you often. The first ZE1250s were delivered with a corrupt bios from what I understand. If you go to HP's website you can download and install the new bios. It will fix everything. The only catch is you need to purchase the $49 external floppy drive to do this because the laptop has no internal floppy drive. I guess mine was a newer model because it does not lock up at all. The laptop also gets very warm if you set it on your lap, sofa, bed, etc. for long periods of time. That is because the exhaust (or intake) fan is on the bottom. Again, this will take a while to get very warm so it shouldn't be a problem. I usually set mine on top of a folder or something else that is hard and flat. All of my previous laptops also got warm, but this one will get very warm if the bottom is covered up. When it is running on top of something hard and flat, it performs for hours on end like a champ. I love this laptop. Feel free to email me with any questions you might have admin@connectedmagazine.com. Oh yeah, it is really cool to watch movies on the laptop while I go back and forth to Vegas!
p.s. I found this on Ebay for $1,000 brand new (not refurbished) and sealed in the box. Shop around or give Ebay a chance.
