| artiste's Full Review: Hewlett Packard PhotoSmart 1315 InkJet Printer |
My friend is a photo enthusiast. She especially loves to take photos with her digital camera. She recently purchased the 1315 so she could print pout her photos from her digital camera.
I found out that 1315 is one of the HP{ Photosmart line. It is an inkjet printer. 135 has a gray and slate silver body which looks very sleek. It has a 2.5 inch color display It is an average size measuring about 7.7 inches, by 17.6 inches by 14.5 inches.
I especially like the connectivity feature of 1315. It can accept Compact Flash (Type I and II) Smartmedia and Sony Memory Stick in one of it's three card slots. You don't need a PC to print your pictures. It also can print on all paper types. They include banners, envelopes, transparent papers, and labels. It works well with Windows 98, Me2000, XP and Mac OS 8.6.
My friend and I looked carefully at what the printer produced, In about 4.4 minutes it produced an 8.5 by 11 inch test photo with 2,400 by 2 1,200 dpi. We thought it was fast because it produced text at 3.2 pages per minute. This is a faster speed than many of its competitors.
The quality of the output needs improving. The photos looked alittle dark and oversaturated. For example, we thought there was alittle too much red color and the flesh tones did not look so good. The graphics prints came out considerably better with good color matching, crisp details and good lines.
We figured out the cost to print with 1315. It is about 3.5 cents for the plain text and 27 cents for color pages. This is a good price, we thought and only the Canon S800 Color Bubble Jet Photo Printer proves to be as economical as the 1315.
We found one other minus point for this printer. Once the tricolor cartridge runs out of one color, it needs to be thrown out. The whole thing needs a replacement. 1315 comes with a one year warranty. A one year extension will cost $69.99. Also HP offers telephone support through a toll free number six days a week.
We thought 1315 comes with allot of good features. However, it is alittle overpriced at $399. The plus side is that it has good connectivity, and offers speed output with no PC required to print photos. However, users may want to shop around for another printer at least for one that offers the similar features at a cheaper price. My friend is thinking about returning the 1315 because she is not thrilled with the quality of the photos the 1315 produced. She has not made her decision yet.
