Pros: None
Cons: Useless to filter
The Bottom Line: Do not buy this filter to clean your tank, especially the bottom, because it won't. Poor design for the purpose.

We decided to purchase this filter for our 10 gallon tank, which only held two bettas. We didn't want a big power filter because bettas breathe air from the top of the water and need the surface to be calm. This is the very basic type of carbon & filter "media" filters. You put the activated charcoal & filter media into the clear plastic filter, hook up airline tubing between filter and a pump, set filter in desired location in your tank and turn on the pump. You can also use an adjustable valve (sold separately) to control how much air passes through. We tried the valve open both slightly and "full throttle" so see if it made a difference in filter operation but it didn't.
This filter can (and HAS TO BE) attached by suction cups to the inside wall of the tank. If you do not use the suction cup, it will float around your tank.
If you notice, this item is called a bottom filter. This is very ironic since the slots for debris to collect inside are on the TOP of this filter. You would have to bury it in 3.5 - 4 inches of gravel to have any effect.
This filter is great if you want to put more oxygen into the tank but pretty useless for filtering. You're better off just attaching an airstone to the pump! After two weeks we still haven't seen dirt in the filter media.
