| Suzer's Full Review: Hamburger Habit |
Hamburger Habit located on Sepulveda and National Blvd in West Los Angeles, has won numerous awards from local radio stations (KABC, Ken & Barkley, Ed & Joan, and of course The Food show). They also have an "A" rating proudly posted on their walls (Environmental Health Restaurant Rating for Los Angeles county. An "A" score is 90-100). Their decor is a typical casual diner, with seating consisting of red and white tall tables and stools, and little tables and stools, coke memorabilia, and cute sayings such as "We gladly give credit if you are 90 with both parents", and a line similar to "If you are nasty, irritable or just plain mean, we will charge you $10 to deal with you".
Menu options:
Their burgers range from $3.50 for The Naked Truth to $4.00 for The Works. Of course you can add meat, bacon, extra cheese, avocado, or you can opt for a veggie or turkey burger. Other offerings include one of my favorite's Charlie's Tuna melt, $4.40, which is wheat toast with a generous mound of tuna and melted cheese. Or perhaps their Dipsy Doodle might appeal to you. That is their Hot pastrami, and is just $4.40. Their Sky High is delicious also, and consists of a pile high turkey sandwich ($4.40). If you love hot dogs, theirs are Kosher.
Additional Offerings:
Chili bowl cheddar ($3.30)
Too Much (White fish, lettuce tomato) $4.60
Fresh fries (regular, large, chili fries), hot buttered corn on the cob.
Low cal but absolutely delicious shakes (they make them super thick, so if you want to drink it through a straw, request it to be made thin!)
Garden salads, home made soup, fresh baked apple pie, and a small amount of pastry bars.
Beverages include of course coke, diet coke, sprite, root beer, orange, lowfat milk, tea and iced tea, coffee and decaf, lemonade, and of course shakes and floats.
My experiences:
I have been going to Hamburger Habit off and on for many years, and have never had a bad meal. The service is always friendly and quick, and they have little or no turnover of employees (says a lot). You place your order up at the counter, and pay. They will give you a playing card. When your meal or take out meal is ready, they'll call out your card - i.e. 5 of spades. It is generally quite busy, and there are usually at least a few kids there, as well as occasional kids' birthday parties. They have crayons & balloons available for the children. I love their burgers with lettuce, tomato and avocado added, as well as the Charlie's Tuna Melt and the Sky High. The fries and shakes are great unless of course you are on a diet. If so, this is probably not where you want to be. It is entirely too tempting.
Final thoughts and recommendations:
Hamburger Habit is one of my favorite casual restaurants. I go there frequently for take out, and if a quiet atmosphere is not required, I will eat a meal there alone or with friends/family. As noted, the only problem is the parking. They are in a small strip mall, sharing the property with a flower shop, Fantastic Sams, Baja Bud's Mexican food.
If you are planning to take food out, you can call ahead and save time. I highly recommend Hamburger Habit for a casual dining experience, eating in (not real quiet) or take out, with or without children. Enjoy and have fun!
