Pros: cats love it, seems to help with problems
Cons: promotes weight gain as stated by vet, prescription only food
The Bottom Line: Recommended because my number one priority is a healthy cat and all the negatives are relatively small things.

| jodisims's Full Review: Hill's Science Diet Prescription Diet Feline c/d D... |
It's true we've had fewer problems since putting our cats on this food for the past 9 months. Similar to another reviewer, we have a black furry cat that was abandoned and adopted us and therefore (I guess) he has severe separation anxiety issues. Meaning if we leave for a long time or even the weekend he gets very upset, holds his pee which promotes UTIs. He also pees on the bed and all that fun stuff too. Since we travel a lot this was becoming a problem. We bought it simply because our vet recommended it. Now I know there are people who feel that vets recommend food just so they can make money selling it. However, our vet actually recommended a cheap OTC food first. It is only when that didn't work that he recommended C/D
The vet also said that there is something in most all cat food that is very bad for cats and also promotes UTIs and that is "fish meal". So we also check all of our treats for fish meal and avoid it as recommended. C/D food is free of fish meal and the cats LOVE it. So...
LIKES
1. Cats love food
2. I feed them this food exclusively and not only when the have a problem as another reviewer suggested. The cats love it and I see no reason to switch.
3. Feeding cats dry food only (except for treats) is REALLY REALLY easy and convenient.
4. Has seemingly corrected problem
DISLIKES
1. It is fatty and your cats will probably gain weight. Our problem child is at 16 lbs, but he was heavy to start with.
2. Our cats also take it out of bowl and eat on floor, scattering half eaten bits everywhere - including in water dish. They also don't like to eat the half pieces (naturally) so you are forced to throw away a bunch of half eaten pellets at bottom of bowl.
3. It is greasy but this doesn't really bother me
4. Ours will throw up sometimes also - I always thought it was hairball related. But is a consistency that is very easy to clean.
5. Sometimes the cats get a bit constipated but is better since I give them a wet treat a couple of times a week. (baby food works great - no onion or garlic)
6. Prescription only which is enforced rather strictly in this town.
