Pros: Location, valet parking, fax machine in room

The Bottom Line: Don't bother staying here. There are many other hotels in the area from which to choose.

A member of the "personality hotels," the Hotel Diva is one place I will never stay again, mostly because of the extremely poor customer service. Upon arrival and check-in during a recent trip to San Francisco, we were quite surprised to hear that we had been assigned a room with only one bed, for there were three in our party. The reservations had been made over the Internet for a one-night stay for three people. The front desk clerk insisted that the hotel had the right to assign us any room it chose, regardless of the number of people in the party. This sounded ridiculous to us, but we thought that if this were the case then surely we could get a roll-a-way bed or cot, at the very least. No such luck at Hotel Diva. One queen size bed for the three of us was apparently the best they could offer. And, I might add, the desk clerk was quick to point out that we would have an extra charge for the third person. Only when we finally demanded they credit the card that had been used to reserve the room did they make the reasonable accommodation of a room with two beds. As we came and went to and from the hotel over the next two days, every person we saw attempting to check-in was being badgered and had the same harried look that I'm sure we exhibited. For all the hotels in San Francisco, there must be one that knows the value of quality customer service. Unfortunately, Hotel Diva does not.
