| i_am_ed's Full Review: Lenovo ThinkPad i Series 1472i (2611-472) PC Noteb... |
I currently have a fast duron desktop. It takes up a whole desk with the monitor. Cables and wires snake across the floor and under the carpet. And the noise makes it hard to concentrate when in the same room.
So I bought a Thinkpad.
This model comes with a PII-366, which suprisingly is adequate by far to play DVD movies. The bright 14.1 inch LCD (1024x768) means watching movies is a comfortable affair. The speakers are awesome, although quality is by far better in Windows 98 than in Windows 2000, which is solely a driver issue.
With the onboard modem, and video out, this is the ultimate travel computer. I can go anywhere, and coupled with a 10/100 NIC, I can hook up to anything.
It comes standard with a 6.4gb hard drive, with I find overly spacious for me. The 2x DVD never skips a beat, although some cd-rw discs are slow to read. Although the hard drive is hard to get to, I dont think upgrading it to as much as 32gb will be a difficult task.
The video out comes via S-Video, and frankly, it works. It is easy to use this as a DVD player on the run, using the combined video and audio out.
And the coolest thing? Turn it off, close the lid, and it doubles as a CD player. Although, as with all laptops, the speakers lack bass, the sound is clear, and volume gets quite loud. This CD player feature is also convienent for loading or unloading a CD without having to cut the system on.
Battery life under normal use is two hours. I have stretched that to more, but with normal use that is about right.
Max capacity is 256 megs. I have used AutoCAD, Visual Studio, and everything, and it is excellent. I am a student, and everything my work requires, it will take without complaint.
I gave up my faster desktop for this. And frankly, I am not going back.
