I purchased these speakers from HookedOnTronics.com a short while ago to go along with my Pioneer TS-D690R's, both running from my Pioneer DEH-P650. Just recently I top-mounted them in my dash (which I recommend to anyone installing these, as the tweeter extends a ways above the actual speaker and is very delicate--also, the terminals are rather fragile and bend easily, so one should avoid squeezing them into tight spots). Considering that they're only 4" wide, the bass is incredible; I can feel it in my seat as I'm driving (NOTE: I am using a pair of foam baffles as well as my head unit's built in 50-hrz high-pass on all four speakers). The highs, too, are extremely articulate and well-detailed, though occasionally hi-hats and cymbals can be harsh to the ear (EQ-tweaking takes care of this easily). Performance at high volume is phenomenal, and very little distortion occurs until I reach the top 10% of my head unit's output (which is expected when running without an amp). These speakers are very loud and can easily be heard over wind and road noise. I would recommend them to anyone. The only installation difficulty I had was finding room for the extensive wires and the crossover under the dashboard (the wires can easily be shortened, but the crossover is about 2"x1"x0.5", so it can be mildly bulky).
Just a note on the outboard bandpass: don't be worried about how to use it or how it works; it's wired right in line with the speakers, and requires no technological know-how whatsoever.
