Yes, there is a software problem with the software that came initially packaged with the CS430 Webcam back when Windows 98 was the OS. That software does NOT work on Windows XP. And Microsoft is so good, that they have recorded that (and thousands of other) old software package(s) that don't work with the newer operating systems in the computer. Now Windows XP is so smart, that it won't let you install that old software, because that old software will crash on the XP system (not a system crash, but a software crash).
Then to make things complete, Microsoft has packaged a NEW driver in the operating system (Windows XP) so that now you do NOT need those old CDs that came with your webcam CS430. The new driver is great, and includes all the functionality of the the camera in a better interface.
To use the new driver, simply plug the CS430 into the USB port on the Windows XP computer, and it will be automatically installed. A simple way to see the control interface is to then open Windows Movie Maker and click on the "Capture video..." link. You will see dialog boxes that list the camera and the functions that it has.
This camera is still one of the BEST out there. It does adjust extremely well to light and produces excellent quality images. Resolution is good, and color reproduction is great. You can continue to use it for years to come.
And the reverse scan converter is wonderful! That is the RCA plug on the back side that converts TV/VHS signal into your computer, so that you can stream movies or TV directly into the computer.
If you have one of these cameras, hang onto it - it surpasses the quality of the modern cheap webcams that are so ubiquitous these days...
