Three weeks ago…
“What is that?”
“A toothbrush…what does it look like?”
“oh…yeah…ok...hmmm…I see…”
This was my husband’s initial reaction to my new Interplak toothbrush. When he first saw this newest bathroom gizmo he shot up an eyebrow and looked at me and my purchase dubiously. I knew it may take some convincing for him to try the Interplak, and I was right; he gripped his manual toothbrush with a certain fierceness, like a toddler unwilling to surrender his much-loved security blanket…
After reading a vast amount of epinions from fellow members on how no one should live without one of these technological wonders, I finally succumbed and went to my local Target to find the perfect power toothbrush. Taking the reviews I read into account and viewing the products firsthand I chose the Bausch&Lomb/Conair Interplak Power Toothbrush.
In the box you will find:
- Charger base with brush head storage compartment
- 1 Interplak handle
- 1 Full-size brush head
- 1 Compact brush head
- Instructions and warranty card
Nice features:
- Storage area for 2 brush heads
- 2 minute timer that shuts the toothbrush off automatically
- Charger base is wall-mountable
- Combination of short and long bristles on the brush head
- Brush heads are easily removable
What makes this power toothbrush so darn special??
Each grouping of bristles on the brush head rotate back and forth very quickly to not only effectively clean the teeth but between the teeth as well. It also does a good job at massaging the gums to help improve their health. For some reason these bristles seem to reach places my manual toothbrush just could not.
In addition, there is a timer inside the handle that shuts the brush off after two minutes. This helps to ensure that you are brushing long enough or not brushing too long.
The brush heads remove easily by simply twisting them on and off, and they can be stored in the small compartment on the charger base. This is great especially for families. (Note – if you are the only one who will use this brush there is another model exactly like this one minus the storage compartment. It is also considerably cheaper).
The compact brush head that is included is great for those who have a smaller jaw or for older children. Because of the dexterity involved (basically making sure the handle portion does not touch the tooth surface), I would not recommend this toothbrush for very small children.
Something I really like about the Interplak is how difficult it is to brush too hard. My husband is terribly ruthless on toothbrushes. They look like they need to be replaced after only a few weeks; the bristles fray and bend incredibly quickly. If you can imagine the state of his brushes just think of how rough it is on his teeth! With the Interplak it is very difficult to do this. If you apply too much pressure the brush struggles, and you can easily hear the gears inside the brush head grinding.
Drawbacks?
One of the biggest complaints I have read concerning power toothbrushes is how they are rough on the gums. I’ll be honest and admit my gums were a bit sore for a few days, but the instruction booklet does warn the purchaser of this. After 3 days, however, the soreness had disappeared, and it made brushing that much more enjoyable.
The only other real drawback to this toothbrush is the cost of the replacement brush heads; a replacement package of 2 full-sized heads will run you about $20.00 (I received a free compact brush head with mine). If you keep in mind the improved health of your teeth and gums, however, I think it is well worth the extra bit of expense.
So, has my husband finally decided to use this little beauty?? Let’s just say he is one to always be on top of the latest technological advances… ;o)
