OK I am known to be a night owl, I got that way for staying up late to watch episodes of Zorro on the Disney channel. Well now Disney has taken off all there classic late night shows so I turn to CN adult swim action block. Contains a whole bunch of uncut (or at least less cut then usual) Anime series. Inuyasha is on weekdays at 12:30 am in the morning eastern and pacific. New episodes premier on Saturday nights (or Sunday mornings whichever one you want to define it) at 1:00 A.M.
Story.
In the feudal era of Japan a priestess named Kikyo is in charge of guarding the sacred Shikon jewel. A jewel that can increase the power of demons (important note Japanese demons are animal sprits, not the horn demons of hell that we westerners are used to). She happens to fall in love with a half demon named Inuyasha and she wishes to use the jewel to make him fully human so they can be together. But the day that she is to deliver the jewel to him she is attacked by him so he can use the jewel to become all demon. With her last ounce of strength she binds Inuyasha to a tree. She has the jewel burn with her so that it would be protected forever.
In modern Japan a young school girl named Kagome falls down a well and lands in the feudal era, 50 years after Inuyasha becomes bound to the tree. Since she finds out the hard way that she is Kikyou's incarnation the jewel that was burn with Kikyou is inside her. After discovering this at a village where Kikyou's sister Kyate now is priestess she is attacked by a centipede demon and forced to flee the village. At this time the spell that binds Inuyasha becomes partly dispelled. When Kagome runs to the tree that he is bound to he persuades her to remove the arrow so he can help her. But after defeating the demon he betrays her, Kayade puts a magic necklace around him so he can be controlled by Kagome just by having her say sit. When another demon attacks the village Kagome is forced to break the jewel with an arrow and the journey begins to find all the pieces. She'll need Inuyasha's help to keep them from the wrong hands (even though he claims his hands are the wrong hands.) but has they journey the become friends and even begin to fall in love (when there not busy trying to kill each other that is).
Charecters.
Good guys.
Kagome
falls into the well and is dragged back into the feudal era of Japan. She releases the half demon Inuyasha and now there out to find the jewel shards. Since she is the reincarnation of Kiko she has all of her powers, unfortunately she doesnât know how to use them yet.
Inuyahsa.
He fell in love with Kikyo and was bound by the tree by her. He fills betrayed by her and his hatred of her even spews over onto Kagome. It doesnât help that he has the necklace that makes him fall down on his face when ever she says the words sit boy on him either. But deep down below the cranky rough exterior is a nice guy who goes out of the way to help people on the road, whether or not if there's any jewel shards to be gain (of course this doesnât stop him from complaing about it if there aren't any). His powers are the iron rever slash, the ability to turn his blood into a weapon, and the Tetseiqa a sword that can destroy 100 demons in a single swipe with itâs wind scar tenique, unfortunately like Kagome with her priest power he hasnât quite got the hang of that yet.
Human Inuyasha.
On the nights where there is no moons Inuyasha turns fully human and gains a little more sensitivity, but donât worry heâs still the same hot headed anti hero the group knows, just without any of his powers. On these nights Inuyasha likes to find a safe place to hide, but his luck usually has them coming upon the biggest and ugliest demon they ever seen on nights like that.
Full demon Inuyasha.
The Tetseiga was given to Inuyasha by his father to protect his human side from his demon side. When an evil demon breaks the Tetseiga in half something horrible starts to happen to Inuyasha. Whenever his life is threaten heâll turn into a full demon, but this isnât what he wanted when he collected jewel shards. In this state he turns into a mindless Beserker that kills anyone in his path intill someone can knock him out and return the Tetseiga to him. Continues transformations to this state will gradually kill Inuyasha human side, even though the Tetseiga was fixed it will still happen if Inuyasha is parted from his sword for to long.
Shippo.
A child fox demon that father was killed by the thunder brothers. Shippo ran into Inuyasha when trying to avenge his death. After a lot of fights and tricks with Inuyasha and having Kagome kidnapped, Inuyasha was able to kill the thunder brothers and Shippo having no place to go decided to join the gang. A bit of suck up to Kagome, and Inuyasha's personal punching bag, Shippo manges to be a bit of a Pikachu character in the show. Has far has skills go being a fox demons he is able to pull out all sorts of tricks that look big and dangerous, problem is that there just tricks and more then likely to tick off a rival demon then to hurt them.
Miroku.
Miroku is a monk, that is also a lecher. He asks every women he meets to bear his child. While this may make him seem a bit like a pig, he has good reasons. He has a curse on his hand that forms a powerful wind tunnel. One day it will pull it in if he doesnât defeat Naraku so he is looking to have a child so they can finish his work. Miroku is a bit of the comic relief, he is flaky and a bit of a play boy. However Miroku is also a very caring person and worries about what will happen to Inuyasha if he ever has his wish of becoming a full demon granted. His special ability comes from the wind tunnel curse, it can suck entire demons into it. But it's dangerous for him to use because he can get sucked into it, along with Naraku's poisonous insects that can poison him if they fly into it makes it a dangerous weapon to deploy.
Sango.
The final character to join the gang is Sango. A demon hunter who's village is where Shikon jewel originated. Her village is destroyed by the evil Naraku and her family killed in one of his tricks. Sango is tricked into destroying Inuyasha but after a struggle and some talking she figures out that Inuyasha wasnât her enemy. Her brother Khoku though is still under Naraku's control and this makes it easier to control her and Inuyasha's gang. Sango's weapon of choice is a ridiculously huge boomerang that has tied on her back.
Kirara.(Iâve been told R and L sound exactly alike in Japanese so while the spelling is with an R itâs pronounced Kilala)
A cat demon that lived in the Sango's village. Kirara has a two forms, a small cat-dog looking form, and a big saber tooth tiger form. In the 2nd form she can fly and carry people on her back.
Myouga the flea.
A flea and Inuyasha's retainer. He often pops up with new and vital information, has well has wisdom for the group. Once things start to heat up Myouga high tails it out of there. Being a coward that he is makes it all that more funny when Inuyasha flattens him for abandoning the group.
Kyeda.
Kikyoâs sister who saw Inuyasha bound to the tree by Kiko just before he died has a child. She is now an old woman who begs Kagome not to release Inuyasha from his tree but is to late in the warning. She makes it up by giving Inuyasha necklace that let's Kagome control him by saying the words sit boy. Wise and kind old lady Kyede quickly sees whatâs behind Inuyashaâs bad attitude.
Koga.
Leader of the wolf demon tribe and someone who has a big crush on Kagome, and unlike Inuyasha he isnât afraid to show it. This of course makes him and Inuyasha mortal enemies. To bad there to busy saving each others hides from Narakuâs traps to ever make good on any of there threats. Koga acts a lot like Inuyasha heâs a bit hot headed and arrogant, no wonder why he and Inuyasha are always at each others throats.
Rin.
The first victim or benefactor of the Tenseiga. When Inuyasha first learned of the wind scar it was in the middle of fighting Sesshomaru and the end result was Sesshomaru got blasted sky high. A little girl who was beaten up by the local villager try to attend his wounds. When Koga and his wolfs where driven from there homeland they attacked her village looking for food and jewel shards. Rin was one of there causalities. After Sesshomaru had recover he and Jogen found her body in the forest and Sesshomaru was filled with enough compassion to use his Tenseiga sword. Since then Rin has become very loyal to Sesshomaru and has traveled with him. To bad for Jogen Rin is about has eccentric has she is loyal. Sesshomaru is very protective of her and keeps her far away from his battles with Inuyasha.
Bad guys.
The villains of the Inuyasha series.
Sesshomrou.
Inuyasha's older brother and a full demon. Sesshomoru hates Inuyasha for being half demon, of course having his arm sliced off by Inuyasha doesnât really help the sibling rivalry. Besides the fact of the enjoyment for killing Inuyasha he is after the Tetseiga and it's ability to kill 100 demons. He is also mad that he got the worthless Tenseiga sword which can save a 100 people from death. However recently he has added a little human girl to his group named Rin which he saved using the Tenseiga, could there be a nice side to Sesshomoru.
Jogen
Sessshorou's retainer and comic relief. Jogen is small and not very powerful but he is very tricky. While he looks up to Sesshomrou having to work that close to him puts is life in danger sometimes, mainly because Jogen doesnât know when to shut up and often makes Sesshomrou angry.
Kikyou
Once a priestess that protected the jewl and the person who bound Inuyasha to the tree after he betrayed her. Reborn has the ultimate undead tragedy queen by a witch after the jewel shards, and using Kagome's reincarnated soul. She attacked Inuyasha out of hatred and the then confused Inuyasha heard her side of the story of what happen 50 years ago. Luckily Kagome was able to recall her soul back before Kikyou could finish him off. However Kikyou continues to survive living off the souls of others. Bitter at Inuyasha for living, and jealous of Kagome for being Inuyasha new girl friend Kikyou often goes after the group for these reasons. While not totally evil has she often goes from village to village helping out has a priestess until the truth about her is revealed. One thing for sure whenever Kikyou appears before the group trouble isnât to far behind.
Naraku.
The ultimate bad guy of the show, Naraku is a half demon created by a fusion of a bunch of demons and a human bandit. He attack Kikyou and Inuyasha just to see how more powerful the jewel would become with malice. He has the ability to shape shift and take many forms making him a dangerous enemy. He has many jewl shards to contend with to.
Kogra
Ok whatâs worse then an evil shape shifting half demon, a shape shifting half demon that can create different versions of himself using the sacred jewel. Kogra is the first version of himself that he makes. She has the ability to use wind that can throw off even the Tetseiga wind scar tenique. On top of that she can control dead corpses. To bad for Naraku though she isnât very loyal, she would have betrayed him long ago is it wasnât for the fact that he posses her heart.
Kanna.
2nd incarnation created by Naraku unlike the sassy Kagura Kanna is soft spoken and appears has a little girl holding the mirror. But donât let her looks deceive you sheâs even more dangerous then Kagura. The mirror can block and return any attack that is sent her way, also anyone who makes the mistake of looking into that mirror can have there soul sucked out of them.
Animation.
I like the animation in Inuyasha there's some bright color's used and the show and the characters look fantastic. Inuyasha being a half dog demon has a white main with dog ears, he also has long fangs, and claws like a dog would have. But the rest of him looks human. I did at first think he was a girl just watching the opening credits because he reminded me a lot of Ryoko from the Tenchi Muyo series. The frame rate is pretty good so overall the series is ok.
Voices.
I like the voices in this program a lot, I like Richard Cox's voice a lot. He played Kai on the Mobile Suit Gundam series and gives Inuyasha the same aggressive assertive attitude. The difference though is that Kai that way because he's a jerk, Inuyasha that way because that's who he is. The rest of the cast play there parts good to and are interesting the listen to. The only ones that really can get annoying sometimes is Shippo's voice, and the voice of Sesshomours retainer Jogen can get annoying.
Adult Swim content.
This is on Adult Swim and doesnât come on till 1:30 in the morning (or I should say used to come on at 1:30) where I live. So this isnât exactly appealing to the kid's. There's blood and cussing, along with some nudity (none of it frontal though, and no parts are ever shown) so this isnât exactly for preschool. In less they have a cut version on video I don't recommend this for kid's, this is for older teenagers, and adults not for young children. Has far has being an adult I like it.
Final Recommendation.
Inuyasha's the best cartoon that they have on the adult swim action block and I can't wait for it to return in late August. But it's not for children (not that your children have any business being up this late) and if you see any video's at the store I would avoid having them buy any.
