When I was pregnant JC Penney‘s was having a great sale on maternity clothes. I decided to buy a few items, which were already 60% off. At the checkout counter, the clerk asked me if I wanted to apply for the JC Penney card. I decided to go ahead and apply but I really didn’t expect to be approved. When she told me I had been approved I was ecstatic! I received an additional 10% off my purchase and any other purchases I made throughout the day. Since everything was on sale I made out like a bandit!
This card is wonderful if you frequent JC Penney’s and you like their line of products. They are always having sales and as a cardholder you’ll also receive promotional offers in the mail as well as discount flyers. My only problem with the savings certificates I receive is that they have exclusions. For example, you can save $10.00 on a purchase of $50.00 or more on certain items, they cannot be sale or clearance items, they cannot be certain brands, etc. Basically it’s $10.00 off regularly priced items of their choice. So in my eyes these certificates (coupons) are pretty much worthless. Having two children, I am a bargain shopper so I love sales and clearance items. I use the JC Penney card for purchasing back to school clothing and Christmas gifts and it comes in handy when they are having a good sale.
My only problem with this card is that there are periodic daily rates and the APR is 21%. You have to pay off your balances almost immediately. Don’t let them get you with minimum payments. The balance will grow quickly if you don’t pay more than the minimum amount due. It would be wise to use this card strictly within your budget.
With this card you can check your account balance and statement online. You can also make payments online but you can do the same at the department store. If you can’t find a product at the store, check the online catalog, it’s convenient, easy to browse and easy to purchase products using your JC Penney card. The catalog is also available at the stores for a cost of $5.00 but I’d rather just find what I want online or in the store.
As a cardholder if you have a problem with quality or service that you have tried to resolve, JC Penney’s will waive unpaid balances of products costing $50.00 or more as long as the problem occurred at a store near your address. I think that is pretty fair. There aren’t very many credit cards out there that back themselves up like that. It’s good that they make an effort to correct problems for their customers. In my experience with this card the customer service people have always been helpful and courteous.
The JC Penney card has been more than reasonable. I have purchased good quality products and clothing, that even with the interest, I’m saving money on.
