| sam6077's Full Review: Focal SW700BK Subwoofer Speaker |
I was shopping at an audio store one day, and the look and the size of this subwoofer caught my eye in first glance. So I asked the salesman more about this subwoofer because I think it will be very good for my small living room, and later I found out that it is about 370 dollars and it is also made in France.
I had a few listen to the sub, trying out some musics and the latest movies. It sounded ok for under 400 dollars. So I decided to buy it.
When I connected it at home and test it out with some of my favourite movies I found out that the sound is not all that great. It sounded like some dopey speaker that you can get from K-mart. I was very upset with the sound of the subwoofer. So I went back to the shop and asked them why they sound so shocking, the salesman told me to purchase a special cable for it to boost its bass which cost nearly 50 US. Thinking that it was going to make a lot of difference I stupidly purchased the cable and plugged it into the sound system. I was still disappointed with the sound of the subwoofer, it just doesn't give enough bass that I wanted in movies and musics. I rather use the extra 400 dollars to get a better floor speaker with better bass.
After 1 month of use, the sound of the sub starts to crack and worsen. So I brought it back to the shop and exchanged it for another one, luckily they had another in stocked.
However, the sound of the brand new sub still sounds like a very cheap speaker and after another 30 days it starts to worsen.
Once again I had to take it back to the shop, but this time I exchanged it for a B&W subwoofer that the salesman recommended to me, which cost me about 50 dollar extra.
Man, this subwoofer sounds great as soon as I plugged it in, it gave me the precise and solid bass that I wanted.
Now, I can listen to the musics and movies like never before.
The bottom line is don't buy a subwoofer that dies in 30 days, go for a better one and listen to it more carefully don't let the look deceive you.
