I have been the dismayed owner of the HR-S3911U for several hours now, and I am returning it. Put simply, this is the worst piece of electronic equipment I have ever owned -- EVER.
Let's start with the case. It's made of some kind of plastic I'd thought normally reserved for Cool Whip containers. It flexes when you pick it up -- though not as much as you might think, since it weighs about half a pound.
Plugging in and connecting is no problem, but try to play a tape... groan. The audio has a distinct fuzziness, very loud. This was confirmed on multiple tapes, as well as during a record/playback session -- full of static and a jittery video.
I wouldn't wish this VCR on my worst enemy. Wait, what am I saying, sure I would! He's my worst enemy! Come and get it!!!
