Since my daughter's fine motor skills are delayed, working with glitter and glue tends to be a lesson in frustration. So when I heard about glitter glue pens, I just knew this would solve our problem while allowing her to still make glitter pictures. Searching for them in the stores, I found limited selection but online I did find more options. Options in colors and size of the package and number of pens in each package. Of course one big draw for me was that these are washable!!
Yes I can say for a fact that these washable paint pens with the sparkly glitter do wash out of clothing and off of hands! I have had little luck getting most other paints and markers out of my daughter's clothes but this was easy! No need for stain remover either! These pens are only for use with children over three years old. Only 4 1/2" long with the color cap of the color paint in each one. The paint has tiny glittery sparkles in it which is really nice and makes sparkling pictures!
Sadly my daughter did not have the hand strength to be able to squeeze out the paint herself. So she was again frustrated by a project we were doing. We did find that once the paint was half gone in the pens, it did come out easier and she was able to do it herself! I could squeeze it out even when full but what I found was that if we were trying to write a word or a name, that it was hard to squeeze and control our writing at the same time. The pen is like a clear rubber tube with a tip on the end with a hole for the paint to come out. I could squeeze then hurry and place it where the paint needed to go but by then it was dripping on the paper in other places too. If we laid the pen down without the cap on it while using another color of paint, it would drip on the table too. The finger hold to squeeze the paint out with an indention does not do such a good job while writing. The cap fits over the entire end and is made of harder plastic.
There is no scent to the paint or pen. It comes out in a glob streak and is hard to control the amount that comes out each time you squeeze. I would squeeze and then just dribble to make finer lines but it was still way too thick. This is not really paint, it is glue with a ton of glitter in it making it colored. If you smear a bit on your finger, you can see the glue separate from the glitter. It does make 3-D paintings but takes a while to dry before you hang them up. Blowing on it will not help the process, expect an overnight period to give it time to dry. Make sure it is laid flat or the glitter glue will run off of where it should be. A nontoxic creative tool for young artists to use. It really doesn't dry stiff as you would expect either, it dries firm. So with a push of a finger, you can smush it down a bit. Not a touchable masterpiece when using these pens!
They come in smaller packs of 5-packs to larger 20+ packs! We have the smaller pack of silver, gold, red, green and blue. I did buy these colors specifically for Christmas creations! The smaller pack worked great for trying them out to see if my daughter would enjoy using them. $3 for a 5 pack was not that costly and the 3-D affect is worth it!
