Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Johnson & Johnson No More Tears Baby Shampoo
Babies get messy and they need frequent care of the skin and hair to keep them healthy and clean. Many bath products exist to cleanse the skin, but there are only a few shampoos designed specifically with a babys needs in mind. The most popular among these is Johnsons Baby Shampoo, a trusted product that has been helping parents for decades.
Basic Facts About This Product:
Johnsons Baby Shampoo is golden in color and clear in body. It is less runny than most adult shampoos and it offers a pleasant smell that is perfume- like more than anything, with little or no scent of traditional soap or shampoo.

Final Thoughts:
Johnsons Baby Shampoo is one of the most recommend of all baby products. When my little girl was born, I received mixed advice on different products like diapers, formula, baby wipes, and the like. But when it came to shampoo, most everyone gave the same recommendation: Johnsons Baby Shampoo. Without hesitation, this is the product they recommended for young children thanks to its gentleness and its patented No More Tears formula.
The main reason people turn to Johnsons Baby Shampoo is because of its gentle formula. It wont irritate the skin and it wont cause eye irritation like other shampoos. And because it is so gentle, parents do not need to hesitate to use it frequently. It can be used multiple times per day with no adverse affects to the scalp, hair, or skin.
There is no soap or alcohol in Johnsons Baby Shampoo- two common ingredients found in most all shampoos and that contribute the most to clean, germ- free hair. But just because there is no soap or alcohol doesnt mean Johnsons Baby Shampoo cannot clean. It cleans the hair and scalp through its various chemicals. Most important among them, PEG- 80 Sorbitan Laurate is a cleansing agent that helps dissolve away dirt and grime. It is a common ingredient in childrens cleaning products because it reduces irritation. Sodium Trideceth Sulfate is another cleansing agent; a surfactant that aids the cleaning process by allowing water to spread more evenly to better cleanse an area of skin.
Adults sometimes use Johnsons Baby Shampoo and I admit that I, too, have given in a used it when supplies of my other shampoo were running low. This product is mild enough that it wont hurt your scalp but for most adults, the mildness is almost too great to make it effective. I have short hair so I can get away with using a product like Johnsons Baby Shampoo and still get a clean head of hair. But for really oily or dirty hair, this product wont cut it for most adults. Of course, it isnt really meant for adults but as many might recall, Johnsons did try to promote this shampoo as a product for people of all ages at one time. The television ads featured NFL quarterback Fran Tarkenton with the former Minnesota Viking explaining how he used Johnsons Baby Shampoo because it was gentle enough to use every day (remember this ad?). I always thought these ads were really funny- not just because an NFL player was promoting the use of Baby Shampoo for adult men but also because Johnsons was actually spending money on this type of advertising campaign. Someone in the Johnsons Baby Shampoo marketing department must have decided that the one sure way to increase sales of a baby product is to market it to adults. Fortunately for all of us, Johnsons ended its adults can use baby products, too campaign after this. What would have come next- John Candy demonstrating how diapers can benefit adults by eliminating the need to run to the restroom during a busy day at work? I think someone at Johnsons decided that the advertising money for the baby products division would be better spent directed toward those who actually buy baby products for their babies, bringing this marketing experiment to an end.
One other nice thing about Johnsons Baby Shampoo is that it lathers up so easily with such a small amount of shampoo. And since most babys have only a small amount of hair to begin with, it takes a very small dab to get the job done and that means a single, small bottle will last a very long time. It also rinses very quickly and cleanly. There is absolutely no residue left behind when you use Johnsons Baby Shampoo.
Johnsons sells this product in six different sizes: 1.5 oz., 3 oz., 7 oz., 15 oz., 20 oz., and 40 oz. I tend to buy the 7 oz. size, retailing for about $2.75. The larger sizes will save you some money per ounce (the 20 oz. size, for example, sells for about $4.50), but the usage rate is so slow that its not easy justifying the larger sizes. My little one is still using the same small bottle I purchased six months ago.
Overall, Johnsons Baby Shampoo is a very good product for youngsters for many reasons. It wont irritate the scalp and its gentle enough to use many times per day without risk. Regardless of what Fran Tarkenton once said on the television ads, I dont recommend using this shampoo on adult hair. But I do recommend it for babies and young children. It smells nice, is easy to apply and rinse away, and is formulated to keep your baby clean and fresh with no irritation to the eyes or scalp.
