Pros: Good inexpensive, yet delicious breakfasts
Cons: Just about always a line out the door.
The Bottom Line: This is a storefront type of diner experience. They do move em in and move em out, however, the food and service is good. Friendly too!!

Bar Harbor has many, many different places to dine. This is a place for quick eats. It's good, clean, friendly, has a great breakfast menu, and after waiting to get in, fast.
BENCHES IN FRONT
This place on 80 Cottage Street is just a bit out of the busy part of town. It also has a public parking lot across the street and down the road about fifty feet. Next door is a supermarket, so many people seem to park there too. Be sure to park legally. There is available parking in this part of town, no problemo.
Right in front of this place are the two most used benches in all of Bar Harbor. People are always waiting to get into this place that seats about 125 people including the ten or so stools at the counter. Go inside, give your name and how many in your party. The gal inside will constantly make her face shown outside the doors calling in another group. I say group because many families come here. Plenty of others too.
I watched the short order cooks behind the counter and they have a clean place where they move out orders at amazing speeds. I don't know why, but, I could watch these guys for hours.
This place doesn't have a lot of atmosphere, however, it's the best breakfast in town and you can have it from 5:00 AM till 2:00PM We stopped by early one morning when we were starting a side trip up to Canada from Bar Harbor. My wife commented on how very friendly they were to her, as early as it was, in the morning!
They also have a lunch menu.
INSIDE THE JOINT
The guys and gals are all wearing shirts with the saying "Best BLUES in town" This is telling you to try their blueberry muffins and blueberry pan cakes, perhaps some of their blueberry pie too.
The counter in front dominates the middle area with tables around the outside perimeter. You continue into the back area of high benched booths that fit four. You see, with my size, it's not how many they can seat, it's how many they can fit. To get another two at the tables they add a little table to the end with a couple of chairs. The tile floor was a bit worn and had a very dull finish on it. I can't say it looked real clean. Maybe it was from the high volume of early morning traffic. We were there later in the morning. Everything else was clean, the counters, utensils, and I did take a look at the cooking area. That was in good shape too.
OK, LET'S HEAR ABOUT DA FOOD
My wife ordered the House special of Blueberry pancakes. The stack goes for $3.75. She said they were excellent. If she says that, then know they are. She knows her pancakes. My youngest daughter had the thick sliced French toast that was $3.95 add some sausage at $1.75. Also good. They had maple syrup on the counter.
You could ask for strawberry syrup. I don't really know if they had others.
One of the kids had a ham and cheese omelet. That's more my style. I had an eye for it. They were large and looked real tempting. He said it was. "WoW!" I never took notice as to what my middle daughter had, she was sitting too far away for me to take hers, I mean taste hers so......... Mmmm I think it was eggs over easy with bacon but.........
My oldest daughter had a tomato and cheese omelet. It too looked good. They were well sized, didn't look greasy, and they told me the eggs tasted fresh and light.
I went for something a bit more hardy. They made an excellent Swiss cheeseburger. It was thick and juicy. I had a couple of slices of red onion with it and it was perfect. The cheeseburger was $3.75. That was a good deal. Fries were extra It's $1.95 for a serving or a huge serving for $3.50. I'm sure you will surprised that I had just the small one. Good fries. Lightly cooked, yet crisp outside and soft inside. They were straight cut.
I also tried a cup of their clam chowder. I wasn't thinking. I was expecting Manhattan Clam Chowder. I suppose being a Noo Yawka I feel everyone should serve Manhattan. Well it was New England Clam Chowder and it was thick, rich, and full of clams!! I recommend trying it if you stop by this place.
Everything we had was served fast and tasted good. As soon as we were seated the bus boy came over, filled glasses with water and then he offered coffee. The decaf tasted a bit burned to my wife. She sent it back and had regular instead. That was good. During breakfast both the busboy and the waitress kept our coffee cups full.
This place has the feel of and is run like a New York Diner. Move them in, serve them good food, and then turn over the table for the next group. I do want to stress though, we were never rushed. In fact when we were about finished they came around with more coffee refills.
Most of the kids had hot chocolate with whipped cream towering out of the cups.
MORE ON THE MENU
Two eggs with bacon sausage or ham was $4.60. The omelets were all made with three eggs and were $4.95 for cheese omelets going up to $8.50 for a Maine crabmeat, cheese, and vegetable omelet. There is a list of 18 different kinds of omelets on the menu.
There were also a couple of treat type breakfast items. Belgian Waffles with strawberries were on the menu along with a strawberry pancakes that had strawberry sauce all over them and was served with a whipped topping.
Cold and hot cereals were available along with oatmeal, but no grits, my favorite! I suppose Maine isn't considered a southern state.
English Muffins, Danishes, fresh fruit, and even baked beans were on the menu too.
They even had a couple of dinner dishes. Broiled scallops and shrimp too. Mighty early dinner if they are closing by 2:00PM
A FEW MORE FACTS
The rest rooms are large and seemed to have been built or redone fairly recently.
In the very back of the restaurant is a small store selling Blueberry Pancake mixes, blueberry theme t-shirts, and other such blueberry offerings. These are store labeled products and many are in gift packets.
Our waitress was extremely friendly and helpful. She was also inquisitive. Once we were all seated she asked my 22 year old daughters boyfriend who is also 22, "How tall are you?" He answered 6' 4". She said "wow" and then went to turn away. I stopped her and I told her I was 5'8". I don't understand it, she didn't seem impressed!
Anyways my friends, If you are up in Bar Harbor and want an early cup of coffee, an early breakfast or even a late breakfast, this is the best deal in town.
