You come home from work one day and find that your home has been redecorated. Custom by Macaw! The drapery once solid has a shredded look to it now, the walnut paneling is sporting the wormhole motif, and all the precious knickknacks that you have received as gifts through out the years have been rearranged. What seems to be the problem? You have a bored parrot. Parrots are highly intelligent. They grow bored easily and unless you supply them with new and interesting things to do they will find new and interesting things to do. Redecorating the house will be high on the list on what he enjoys most.
One thing I know my parrot enjoyed doing was going outside with me. When I was out weeding in the vegetable garden he would be right there with me. I discovered I needed a play stand when I noticed my macaw had been following right behind me biting a piece of pepper out of each pepper on every plant. He wasn’t picky in the least. He ate the Jalapenos as well has the bell peppers.
The two things I looked for in a playstand were durability and portability. Lugging play stands to different rooms in the house and in and out of the yard will have a tendency to wear the play stands out. Play stands for large parrots are not cheap either. You’ll easily pay $200 for a play stand make sure it is what you want and that it will stand up to being moved around and will hold up from the gnawing of a giant parrot’s beak. Our cage had a play stand on top but face it lugging a heavy metal cage all over is just not convenient. I even tried building a play stand what I ended up with was a bunch of individual parts that made outstanding play toys! Time to shop and compare and part with my hard-earned money.
The JungleTalk Rameses II Playstand was durable and had wheels. Most of the play stands did not have wheels or if they did have wheels didn’t roll worth a darn. The Rameses play stand had a pull out tray for easy clean up. For those of you with parrots you know that this is a necessity. Not only are parrots masters at making messes, parrots love to play the same games that toddlers enjoy playing; drop the toy /treat to the floor for mom and dad to pick up.
The JungleTalk Ramesess II Playstand withstood several camping trips. The stand needs some assembly when purchased; but this also means it breaks down pretty easy to throw in the back of a car. Even after disassembling and reassembling the play stand remained durable.
The play stand comes with hardwood dowels. After the hardwood eventually gets chewed up they are replaceable. Nice feature! The dowels are placed on various levels with a long dowel on top. The parrot can climb down to the tray to pick his own toys and treats up.
On each side of the center support are heavy-duty metal dishes for food and water. There are several places to hang toys. JungleTalk has some outstanding, safe parrot toys. They will even supply a free JungleTalk Toy with the purchase of this play stand. Be sure to change the toys frequently. Just interchange them about once a week. The old toy you put away will be a fresh new exciting toy again next month!
The JungleTalk Rameses II Playstand is hand made in Italy. They use good quality steel. The steel receives a powder finish. The play stand comes in several different colors; green, white, sand, gray, blue, teal, purple and cranberry. The question is do you want to match your home or your parrot? With this variety of colors I’m sure you could do either.
The stand weighs about 30 pounds. The dimensions are 55.75" high, 33.5" wide, 21.25" deep. We purchased the play stand quite a while back at The Bird Shop 5553 Auburn Boulevard Sacramento, CA for around $199.
Spending around $200 for a bird play stand is $200 well spent. Just the money you save from less destruction is well worth it! If the bird’s wings are clipped he will stay on the play stand. Be sure to move the play stand around so that the bird can enjoy different scenery. Supply plenty of new and exciting toys. The JungleTalk Rameses II Playstand will withstand plenty of physical abuse both from being moved around and from the master of demolition himself, the macaw!
