| khchin22's Full Review: KDS Radius RAD-5 15 inch LCD Monitor |
I've been wanting an flat-screen LCD ever since they first came out, but they've always been above my price point. This was before I was in Sam's Club in Los Angeles and I wandered by the KDS Rad-5 for $399! I had read stellar reviews on it on cnet, but the price point was still hovering around 450 at the time. (It's now down to 340). I bought it right away.
The image quality is amazing, bright and crisp. The text really jumps right out at you. And the colors are vibrant and life-like. At 1024 x 768 and 24 bit color, there's no difference between the Rad-5 and a high-end CRT screen.
The niftiest feature the the automatic size/geometry/focus adjustment. If the screen ever gets blurry for any reason (it happened once when my circuit breaker tripped), just navigate to the auto-adjust feature, and viola, everything is bright and crisp again! But if you really want to tweak it yourself (not necessary), the controls were really intuitive. I didn't have to crack open the manual at all.
Of course the LCD saves energy as well, it consumes 32W compared to a CRT which consumes more than twice that amount!
And for a guy like me who moves every year or so, having a monitor that weighed only 8 pounds makes perfect sense. Carry it with 2 fingers and you'll never go back.
The styling on this monitor is very sleek and very sexy. It's hard to describe, but it has very clean silver futuristic look. Goto kdsusa.com for a look.
Absolutely no regrets with the Rad-5, and the 3 year warranty is a great insurance policy. KDS features the KDS Advanced Replacement Express Service, or KARES, that is supposed to replace your monitor quickly if it ever breaks. But it feels sturdy and it's balanced well, so I doubt that'll ever happen.
It's an amazing value, and I only wish they have better marketing so more people know about it.
