| dargentini's Full Review: KDS Radius RAD-5 15 inch LCD Monitor |
After checking out many 15" LCD monitors I found that the KDS RAD-5 was a real value. The screen image when compared at the same time to similarly priced ViewSonic, Samsung, Sys, and Philips models was much brighter and had better contrast. The features varied between the models and were pretty basic overall, as is typical with this price range, so personal preferences would prevail here. The auto calibration feature worked very well and seemed to fine tune the KDS quite accurately. Some blur was visible in very fast moving games but this is fairly typical of most LCD's and not as bad as most monitors due to its reasonably fast signal rise and fall times. The bonus color coordinated mouse that is packaged with the monitor is a 2 button PS/2 wheel type that feels as good and of the same quality as my faithful Microsoft Wheel Mouse. Hookup and setup of the system is very simple due to the DDC2 plug and play support and the fact that no special drivers are required for Windows ME or XP. The active power management features an LED power indicator that also displays out of range V-sync and H-sync modes. Overall this monitor lives up to its reputation as the inexpensive 15" LCD of choice. Present prices place the RAD-5 at around $320 mail order plus $20-$30 shipping. I got mine at Office Depot recently for $359 plus a $30 rebate. Not bad for not having to wait for delivery. Check it out!
