| richeyj's Full Review: KDS Xtreme Flat 9P 19 inch CRT Monitor |
I have been shopping for a 19 inch monitor for a few weeks now - I guess I am pretty picky about monitors. I am really picky about value - I want a great monitor at a small price. I think I have found the perfect solution! The KDS XF-9e costs me $219 at Wal-Mart! You can also find them at Sam's Club for a few bucks less, which is great if you are a member, but I am not so I bought it at Wal-Mart. I installed the monitor on my home computer running Windows XP Pro with no problems. The monitor settings "out of the box" were OK but I took 15 minutes to tweak them to perfection with the simple to use on screen controls. I compare this monitor to the more expensive Samsung 955DF (~ $300) and I note that the KDS supports higher refresh rates ( 85 Hz at 1280x1024 and 75 Hz at 1600x1200) and costs less than the Samsung 955DF. The monitor is very usable at 1600x1200 but not my personal choice I prefer the 1280x1024 setting. I opened up Excel to try to see any distortion and all lines appear dead straight - not bad for a low price truly flat CRT! The whites are very white and the blacks are black. Color saturation and hue are excellent! I am fully satisfied with the KDS XF-9e. Also - as far as I can tell the XF-9e and XF-9p are identical except for the product ID. You have to ask KDS (at www.kdsusa.com) about that one....
