susieq112's Full Review: K'nex Sesame Street Cookie Monster Building Set
We have had the Sesame Street K'Nex Cookie Monster for awhile now. We purchased it along with the Oscar set, which is nearly the same thing, just a different character. If recall correctly, they were both a Christmas gift from Santa.
K'Nex was a toy I had as a child and remember having a lot of fun with myself, but at 2 and half, at the time, my son just is not ready to take on a large collection of K'Nex and these character themed sets, which are considerably smaller and a lot less difficult to work with, seemed to be a great buy.
One of the highlights of this sets and the others like it (Oscar, Ernie, etc.) is the fact that they come with self storage. The set comes in small (trash can like) bucket that has a lid. The Oscar one is a bit easier describe, seeing that it is made to look like a trash can, but they all take the same shape. For Cookie Monster, the top (lid) and bottom portions are blue. The exterior of the bottom half has a paper taped on that explains the toy, which can be left on or taken off after purchasing the toy.
the set comes with about 15 pieces. The head is divided up into 3 pieces, two arms, shoulders, 4 pieces for the mid-section, two legs, two feet, and a cookie. The set also comes with a small pamphlet that gives alternate ideas for construction. In our case, we have had two sets (Oscar & Cookie Monster) and all of the pieces are interchangeable/work together. Another thing to note, is the fact that Cookie Monster will literally stand up once you have him assembled.
The only downside I have found with this set is the small pieces, 15 of them that easily get lost, even though it does have its own storage included. We somehow, haven't managed to lose any of the pieces, but sifting through the toy box to find them all (if not put away properly) can take some time. The toy is recommended for ages two and up. My son has had the toy since he was 2 1/2. The only thing we have had to watch for is pieces going into ears and is nose... You know how little kids are. If your kid is still regularly chewing on toys at age 2, I wouldn't recommend this set, because some of the pieces (the legs and the arms) are narrow, if you know what I am saying...
My son had had a lot of fun with this set. He can put the pieces together on his own, disassemble, and recreate, at his will. He does tend to play with the set more often, if he has someone else playing with him however. Mixing the pieces between his other set has also been interesting and he often gets a big laugh out of mixing and creating odd characters.
Overall, I think the sets are cute, but in most cases over priced. I think we paid around $6-$7 for this set when they first started coming out, but I have seen the prices inflated. Keep in mind that this is a small set and in "K'Nex World" 15 pieces is not very much.
